First and foremost, the Derby City Classic for 2007 is absolutely still on, and has no plans on not being on.

In an effort to get more (easier) spectating to the world class 3-Cushion, that event is being moved to the Executive West where the 14.1 high-run event was.

The 14.1 event will be moved to the Chapel, which should also generate more spectatorship and participation.

There will be more ring games as well. The details are still being formed.


So, as an aside, the questions of the day are:

What has to happen to keep the top names coming back?
What can we as spectators and attendees do about the food situation? Mass e-mail?

Fred,
Mass e-mail is a great idea. See if you can get an address where someone in a position of responsibility will actually see the e-mails. Encourage ALL of the e-mailers to be very polite and helpful sounding. If we got 500-1000 e-mailers its possible someone would do something about the problem.

Looking over the years, certain names have not come back or come at all. Nick Varner says he might not come back. Does Johnny Archer have a reason to go? I don't recall seeing Rempe or Hopkins ever there. Will Sigel ever participate?

I think that because the games like one-pocket and especially short-rack banks aren't "mainstream," you'll get a lot of under-the-radar players. But the top players who may have made their name in 9-ball or 14.1, sometimes the feeling is that there's less for them there. Does anyone else feel that way?

It would be nice to see more ring games. I enjoyed following the progress right here at AzBilliards. The coverage of the DCC on a designated DCC forum was great for those of us stuck at home. :p

Do you know if the ring games will be organized with the utilization of additional staff?

What are you thinking? A money added Invitational, run in tandem with the other events? It may have merit, I would have to have time to weigh the pros and cons of it, before I would say it is a good idea, or not. How else could they be enticed? Maybe put on the payroll as, play the pro workers? I don't know, just a couple of ideas.

I would think EVERY Pro player, man or woman would want to be there. There is too much money and too many opportunity for promotion and sales in Louisville. Most people would love to just knock around some balls with pro players for $20 bucks a game or $100 a set. In what other sport can you do that? You think Barry Bonds would play catch with you and your son for $20? Pool is unique in that aspect that the players are so in touch with the general public. The DCC rules the world in this aspect I think. Jeanette Lee was playing people for $20 and giving them signed posters and pictures late at night. Its great exposure and publicity for the Pros and whatever products they are representing. Like I said...TOO much money at DCC to ignore it if you are in business. My $0.02 ....
 
Well Rempe not being there isn't really a surprise IMO, seeing as how he doesn't seem to play many tournaments anymore. Varner as a "native son" not playing is a little bit of a surprise, however it is a grueling tournament format, probably more so for those a little older. I do remember seeing Hopkins there, last year.

Bro...when I saw Nick at Valley Forge he said the DCC was a rough format and he wasnt sure if he flet it was in his best interest to come back. PLUS...it is where he became ill and I think that is a lil haunting.
 
Seeing JAM name on this thread made me think that another pro, Keith, has not been there in at least 2 years.
