Great tooling. Your'e making my swift case look a little dull. Maybe one day I'll give you a call for a case.

That's an awesome case. This design is more my style than the other case you showed, but they're both incredible.

Is the weave part done by machine?

The closeups on the link are absolutely amazing. And you're right, the depth on the weave is almost unbelievable. And I love the shading on the florals...
 
Nick, what is your issue? Let it go. This is as much my community as it is yours. What if it isn't "for sale"? Contrary to what you may think not everyone browses the for sale section and not everyone there browses the general section.

People post all the time about stuff they are proud of. I am proud of these cases for the work that went into them. It's not about selling them. If I want - every single case I make is already "sold" to a few dealers who have already told me they will take every case I make.

So quit dogging me. When you become the moderator you can start weeding out the threads you don't like - but if this is one of them then I think you'll be stepping on the toes of a lot of folks who do enjoy seeing this work.

You can ALWAYS simply put me on ignore and not see my posts. Or you can exercise some restraint and just not click on threads you don't want to see. Like I do.

Everything on this case is 100% hand tooled - no machines, no rollers, no laser engraving.

John , that's a great looking case!

A few months ago you raffled off a case to an AZ member, do you have any photos of the case you made for the raffle winner? I have been mighty curious about what the winner chose to do.

That's a great looking case and I'll tell you what I'm going to do....
I'm going to offer you the first Jeff-Q case made by Jay Flowers. It's a very valuable pool collectible and it has JAY FLOWERS name down the side in big block letters.
I'll trade you even steven for the 'Basket Case'......

I am in the final stages of design on that case. The winner emailed me a detailed outline of what he wanted me to consider. I have been working on it in spurts and the design is nearly done.

All of the custom cases are different. I don't use any pattern that I have used for someone else. This is very time consuming to get right because it requires a lot of thought to not only try and bring someone's fantasy to reality but also to come up with new ways to produce a world class case.

I love my colleague's work. What I don't like however is the fact that a lot of the cases end up looking very similar due to the use of the same elements over and over.

I want to get away from that as much as I can for the custom cases I do. I have always had the dream to have a workshop that can do that. So now I have it, or almost have it, and that's what you will see for those cases.

I have however decided that I will also make pattern cases like this one shown in the thread for the purpose of painting pictures using the patterns as the canvas. After a lot of thought I realize that not everything has to be a sculpture, sometimes it's enough to just build a good solid case and allow the artist to express himself on that canvas.

I can't wait to show you all the customs - those are what I really, really going to be proud of.

Back in the day, before the internet in 1991/92 :-) I was making only one of a kind cases and I loved that time more than any other. Each case was really different and a lot of fun. Jim Murnak's stuff is about the closest thing to what I was doing back then. Now I can do it again but with more experience, better equipment, and better people. So rest assured, the good stuff is coming, at least in terms of funky designs in my style.

I am interested. Send me a picture of the case. That is one case that I would love to have.

If we can't trade on this one then perhaps we can work something out on another one. I only say that because I expect to get paid for this one shortly.

Sadly, I don't have a digital camera.... nor do I have a clue about uploading-downloading-posting a picture (remember, I'm an 8 year WebTv poster). If I can find someone locally (like Captain Hook, etc.) to take some pictures and then post them up for me, I'll do it. They may also take pictures of my Wayne Gunn and Rocky Tillis cues that I keep in that case. I call the case & cues my Tampa Collection.

Wayne Gunn - Man that's a memory. I still love his advertisement from back in the day - "We don't pay anyone to use our cues. If you see someone shooting with a Wayne Gunn, they paid us."

Is Jay Flowers still around? I talked to him yars ago in Vegas and we made sort of a deal. I'd sure love to call him if anyone has contact info.

Doug, because I have several "I wants" that are racing (I hope) to give me money, can we make the following deal? If I don't sell the case in three days then it's yours for the Flowers sight unseen. If I do sell the case then we can work on another one for you to trade on - Maybe with Tampa Tubby Bob down the side? :-)

It's a deal on the Basket Case. The Jay Flowers case is in good condition (no tears, gouges, latches work, zippers work, red tube lining in good shape,etc.) I understand that the case may be sold, it's a beauty.
As far as another case is concerned, we'll see what you come up with. I don't think I want my name ( or nickname(s) ) on the side of any case, as my grandchildren won't be able to get top dollar when they sell it (like they do with their birthday & Christmas gifts :) ).....

That's too bad about Jay Flowers. He was an interesting man. He cam up to me in Vegas one year and said he started the whole tooled leather case thing. I was floored to meet him because his case was the reason I got into casemaking. We chatted for quite a while before he had to play a match. We talked a few times more that week as well.

Wow, well it's too bad he wont' get to the see the results of our conversations.

Rest in peace Jay, I and a lot of other case makers owe you.
