Lathe for tips

I started working at a pool hall at 15, 65 years ago. My job was everything the boss didn't like doing you give it to the kid. He hated to re-tip the house cues. I guess I did at least 500. We did everything by hand and to this day I do them by hand. Although I would like to mess with the lath, but with your cue...not mine.

I’m thinking about getting a cheap lathe to do my own tips. I’m looking at a few on Amazon. Onetuon Mini bench top at $130, OPHIR at $57, and Winbomgo mini multipurpose $66. Anyone have one of these? Will they work for tip installs?
If all you want to do is replace your tips buy a willard tipping machine. They also hold their value.

I have the Willard tip tool...works awesome.

Finished this install this morning using the Willard. Ultraskin shaped with the Last 4 Ever tip tool. Works just fine for this guy.

I have to correct what I said earlier when asked if accessories can be added and was it the same bed as the large bore. I said I thought it was but was slightly wrong. Looks as though the cross slide wheel is slightly different, and the gear strip 42" on the large bore instead of the 12" on the basic repair. Pretty much other than that most all accessories interchange, I think. We'll see when I get it soon as I just got word it's being assembled now, almost two months earlier than promised.

Not really sure any of those would work well for tip repair. In my opinion you need a lathe that has a chuck you can feed the shaft thru. I was at the same point a few years ago and wanted to get lathe to change my own tips. Midamerica cue lathe is what I went for.

Assembled? Where are these guys getting their parts?

Not sure where Todd gets his parts for the lathes that he sells, but he also sells all the parts for it separately.
