Lathe stands for a Mid Size lathe. Is there an ideal height? I'd like to get a slim one ....just big enough securely mount a lathe. PennState Inds. has one but it's a bit low...31". Horror Fright has one but the reviews flame it. Suggestions on what and where to get one. Sears, HD, Lowes? Thanks

Any height that suites you, is the ideal height.
A lot of Metal lathes have the chuck height quite low, simply from the manual lifting of parts is easier when it is from waist height, to below chest height.
But a more comfortable height for turning dials etc,is when your elbows are less than 90 deg.

Sometimes it is nice to be able to lean over and look around the back of the machine as well. Everything is a compromise.

I'm short on space until I sell my car. I could use a collapsable work bench for now. I might look into a Black and Decker or something similar.

I got started by accident. I have an Atlas 10x36(54" bed) that my brother was going to scrap. It is not the ideal lathe but good enough for tips, ferrules and shaft cleanup.

Bet the price was right. Enjoy it.

I started because the local guy got an out of town job.
I had zero experience when I ordered my first lathe.
That was many moons ago now,
I too reccomend a mid size cuesmith.
I also reccomend a 6' bed, especially if you want to do house cues.

LOVE all your You tube videos .....great job sir
