would it be expensive to just lathe out a groove so that an aftermarket rubber grip would install flush on a cue butt? My rubber grip must be removed from my break cue to get it into my instroke case without tearing up the liner of the case....

I'm sure it could be done, as long as the rubber is fairly uniform in thickness and is small enough to be tight on the cue when the cue is a little smaller in diameter. A local cue repairman or cuemaker should be able to do it at a good price as long as the finish doesn't chip when cutting the groove.

I agree John, it shouldn't be a problem at all, as far the finish, the key is using a really sharp cutting tool. I would also cut it under size and then take it up to the correct length, this would minimize the chance of a problem occurring.

well i thinks it nots too expensive as you think, cuemakers can easily do it.
go to your cuemaker with the rubbergrip, and i'm pretty sure youll be happy on the finish outcome on it.
