Layered tips glazing over

I look at it a different way. Having a tip installed is part of the cost of playing pool. Just like table time, lunch, a Quervo or two. It's all part of the overhead. If the occasional cost of a tip bothered me, then I probably shouldn't be playing.

it isn't a cost issue.. it's a consistency issue. constantly scuffing never lets the tip get broken in properly.. I have a 2 year old triangle on my main player it's never been scuffed and I have still got a good 3/16'ths of sidewall left..plays great..and more importantly it plays the same.. everyday

The problem is, like most things in pool, liking a certain tip is subjective. I have used triangle tips on a few different cues and didnt care for any of them. I like my layered tips, and it dont matter to me if you are laughing at me for using a $14 Kamui (not $40). I like what I like, you like what you like, and somebody else likes what they like. I used a single layer water buffalo, until I miscued on a hard draw shot, and a chunk of the tip went flying across the room! lol! Me personally, I like trying out different tips. Its all part of the game for me.

Thanks for all the replys,

I don't think it's due to dirty equipment. Although I do play at bars once or twice a week I mainly play on my own tables which are cleaned every day or two. Plus I can't make the bar owners clean their equipment. I have a dedicated break cue and don't break with the shaft.

I install my own tips and do my own shaft cleaning, I have a couple of lathes and all the tools needed to do professional installation.

I think I might try the trick with the tapper and chalk, that seems like it might work well. I don't like to reshape my tip after it has been broken in as it takes a little bit to get used to the new deflection and spin that is created by the different shape.

It could be partially to do with the chalk, I like the IPT chalk better than the master but the problem still shows up.

If I can't get something to work I will be switching to a non layered tip.
