In a perfect world, all is peachy and there are ample hugs & kisses for all. Unfortunately (or not), we all live in the REAL world and it ain't all that pretty unless you know how and where to look. This comment about CMs getting along all the time has come up many times of late and I don't believe that there is a simple answer. Cms' personalities are as varied as the woods we use and the cookie-cutter mold that some would have us fit into doesn't apply outside of someone's dreams. Therein lies one of the problems. When you cease trying to categorize CMs into convenient pigeon-holes you may just get a better sense of the real individual. When I say that everyone is different, that's a gross understatement when applied to CMs. We all have commonality in that we build cues and have shared interests in that regard but that's about where the similarity ends. People are different and so are personalities. For the most part, we accept that, the key word here is 'accept' (Thanx Mike). I'm not looking to change anyone or their behavior. That would be an infringement on their freedom to be who they are.
I post on this site because it is as close as I care to get to social interaction. Honestly, I don't like being around people, they are very disappointing. Being a perfectionist sometimes does that to people. I don't like talking on the phone either. But that's just me. This is an issue that I'll deal with in my own way in my own time.
There are tons of unflattering adjectives you could use to describe a lot of CMs and probably most would be correct. Some are really very nice people but then some are not. That has absolutely nothing to do with their finished product. So, do you want to buy a great cue or do you want to buy a social celebrity? You might want to think about that one for a minute. Do you think Van Gogh was a treat to be around? Wasn't he the Dutch artist who cut off his own ear to send to his girl-friend? Talk about personality disorder. But that's hardly a reflection of his work. See what I mean?
I've had this visual for the past couple of days and I'll now share it with you. Imagine 20 gyroscopes all spinning away on a table-top. Literally, physical poetry in motion. No problems and everyone is spinning away just fine doing their own thing. However, when one starts to infringe on another's space, maybe bumping it ever so slightly, and you just know it's going to happen, well now you've got the equivalent of a bar-room brawl, gyros flying everywhere. It's just a vision, don't read too much into it.
Please don't apply preconceived notions of how your ideal CM should act to what you read in this forum. We're all big boys here and for the most part, get along with one another just fine. Nobody is out to hurt anyone else. If we have disagreement, we handle it. Maybe not in the manner that the general reading public would approve of but then we ain't the general public. Just my thoughts, take them FWIW.
