You should only think of what is fair to the league, not any one person. The league has rules for everyone to abide by. By allowing him a second chance to up his ranking, you are giving him a chance to move above other league members unfairly.

It may be unfortunate that he missed his match, but by allowing second chances, you are giving him opportunities that others may not grant when they are in your shoes. That's exactly why there are rules about forfeits because not everyone will act the same way because they're trying to be nice.

If real emergencies prohibited me from playing league pool, I shouldn't expect second chances. It's just bad luck. Take the forfeit like the rules dictate.

Prize fund is determined by the amount of players participating in the league. So every match that is forfeited are two green fees never paid.

For the last six weeks of the league, I have to re-schedule my matches. Three of my opponents have been nice enough to play our matches in advance, and two more tentatively re-scheduled. I see courtesy going both ways as my next six opponents could have demanded forfeits, and ending my chances for the playoffs.

For me it would depend on why he didn't show up. Unless he had a good reason I'd take the forfeit.

If I showed up for a match and they couldn't be bothered to call or text me to tell me not to come. Yes I would take the forfeit. Some simple common courtesy and I would have been happy to play at another date.

Take the forfeit. He didn't have enough time to call, he loses.

And if he was an "emergency", he most likely does not care about a pool match, and just assumes he lost the match and will worry about his emergency, not pool.

The second opponent, whom I scheduled a re-match for tonight texted me. His wife has an emergency, so he has to stay with the kids and cancelling me and his opponent for tonight.

I pre-played 3 upcoming matches, so I'll won't be around for the next 3-4 weeks if my opponents want to re-schedule. Most likely I'll take both forfeits. Consensus is that I've bent over backwards to accommodate, and not fair to the other players if I didn't take the forfeit.

This league is a good stepping stone to team 9 or one of the weekend tournaments.

Next season might be a good time for you to move on. You are ready.

I'm fine with playing a make up match, but very little effort will be made on my part to facilitate such a match and it's likely that I'll agree to only one opportunity to do so. That is exactly how I would expect to be treated if I were not show up for a match. If I couldn't be there it would be up to me to accommodate my oponent if they were good enough to agree to schedule a make up match. However, in a league such as the APA where you need to meet at certain handicap limit, if they have enough players available but cannot meet the requisite handicap amount we would probably entertain the idea to agree to just play the match out with what we had. Make up matches are a pain in the ass, if we don't have to play them I'd really rather not, in the name of sportsmanship I would if needed, but I'd first look for a way to avoid them, and if you're a dick and you have a history of being a dick there's no way on earth I let you make up a match under any circumstances.

Ronscuba,

Thank you for the vote of confidence. I'm not sure if I'm ready yet. I can beat up on the Ds, and hold off on the D+s. When I play a real C+, or B that's when I hit the wall.

It's kinda disheartening when I play a B, get 3 games on the wire, and my opponent is on the hill 8-4, and then slips 3 games to win 9-7.

Got my first forfeit of the season.

I like the tournaments:

- learn by playing and watching stronger players
- only way to get used to pressure is to put yourself in pressure situations
- double elimination, you get to play a lot of pool
- experience playing in different pool halls makes your game stronger overall
- good days, bad days, luck, the better player does not always win

Depends what you expect of yourself and what you want to get out of the experience.

If you are waiting until you are good enough to be a favorite to win the tournament, then yes, wait until you are an A.

You are good enough to be competitive in the lower bracket and if you play well, you have a chance to finish in the money. Take a look at the current standings in the Tristate and Predator. You will recognize a lot of names. People you are competitive with, people you have beaten.
