The thread on 'Can you save $20/week?' reminded me of the Ashton twins when they told me that they were going to Hawaii with their league. I asked how that was accomplished and they said that they paid an extra $20 every week in their in-house league for 20 weeks or something like that.

The poolroom kicked in something at the season's end and everyone went to Hawaii, with their flights and condo paid up. Drinking money and expenses once they got there were on their own. One huge party for a few days.

Has anyone else done that, or something like that? Could be fun!

We have something like that up here in Mount Vernon, it is called the Reno Open 9-ball league comprising of several taverns and multiple teams from Riverside Billiards and Blues. Each player pays $25.00 at the beginning of the season and $4.00 per league night plus .25 for each time you scratch. Each team sponser pays $50.00 at the beginning of the season. There are four-man teams but we play singles. At the end of the season the top individual game winner receives an all expenses paid trip to the Reno Open in June. This includes airfare, hotel and tournament entry. In addition there is a handicap tournament at the end of the season for both men and women that awards more trips depending on the amount of money available. Last year there were a total of 8 trips awarded. There are league officers and the entire league is well organized. We play once a week and each person plays 8 games a night.

Linda...It sounds like a fun idea, but the math doesn't add up! The poolroom would have to kick in a heck of a lot. 20 weeks x $20 per person, is still only $400 (and that's Canadien $$). That doesn't even buy a plane ticket, let alone hotel, food, etc.

Maybe it was a longer season. I know they had quite a bit more than $400. Food was not included, sorry, I only mentioned the drink. lol. They also all roomed together - 8 or so to a condo. I think a few people there had lines on timeshares.
 
All expense paid to Vegas

Here in Montreal I play in the VNEA. Each year they send a few teams to Vegas to play the big tourney hotel, tournament and food paid. Last year I think it was 7 teams of 4 and a few extra players to make 6 teams of 5 + the organizer. That was out of 81 teams. This year we've got around 100 teams so more get to go this year. I pay 9$ + 2$ for the table each week.

The only thing I don't like is that all the trips are a draw at the end and none are by merit. If it was Merit my team would have been there 2ce instead of none.
 
My team has a foul jar. we throw a $ coin in everytime we foul. at the end of the year we have a party with the money.
 
My team has a piggy bank to supplement the dues we pay for our limo ride to the year-end banquet. A scratch costs a quarter. A loss while shooting the 8-ball (scratch, wrong pocket) or pocketing it early costs $1.

It's all good fun and it does add up.
