League night dilemma

So at leagues tonight we have half way through position round, we are currently in third and two and a half frames out of first. After four games played in the first frame we are tied in the second frame we have it won after four games and in the last frame we are up one point after four games. Our number one player is the one waiting on an opponent and the guy never shows, I feel bad because he won't be able to play but by taking the forfeit he gets four points per frame and we win all four as a team, win win right? Well the other team wanted to dice roll to see who plays him and get an opportunity to win the first and third and possibly the overall, I say no because even though he is the best player in the league and prolly at least a 90% favorite why would you risk it and on top of that its not in the rules. Well he and two other players on the team say well I would let you play but I don't understand their thinking? Am I wrong here? What would you guys do? Sorry for the rant I just got home and I'm a little worked up over the whole deal, not to mention it was prolly the worst day of work and luck I've ever had in my life and my mother has to go in for a pretty major surgery in the morning. By the way this is a money bar league not apa or bca or anything like that and our team is definitely a favorite to win. Thanks for any input

I am the captain of an APA 8 ball team. My team does not do make ups, we don't let anyone over post, we don't allow anyone to play twice.......... get your team there to play or forfiet............. period....

I captain a couple of vnea teams and always let the opponent do a makeup or 3 of the players play once and their captain plays twice. But we have had the same teams in b
oth league's for years and every team does it.And yes we take it seirous but sometimes things happen.

It boils down to what is important to you and your team...You probably didn't make any friends on the opposing team with that move, but if that doesn't bother you and the wins are more important then you did the right thing.

If it were my team we probably would of let it ride especially if its our best player and he's a favorite to win anyways...then again our league dictates that we have to either let the other team shoot for their missing player or allow a makeup game at a later date

On a side note and more importantly...I hope your mother's surgery go's well and she has a speedy recovery!

The league we play in doesn't allow him to shoot anyone but the player that didn't show it is against the rules to do what they wanted to do

We do make ups if arranged ahead of time. Meaning if there is clearly going to be a personal scheduling conflict that both teams are aware of ahead of time, and agree to. On league night, and we don't have enough players show up, we forfeit.

Good luck.

You made the right call, don't sweat it. If they can't field a full team, that is the penalty, no questions asked.

In our league, we shoot 5 rounds, each person plays in each round, thus you play every person on the other team once... 5 games for everyone.

But if you only have 4 players you ghost, and your "players" gets 6 points for every game, and the other team gets the win, 11 points. so their side shoots a 55 against our ghost who shoots a 35, huge difference, but still better than a forfeit for the team short one guy, but tough to overcome unless everyone steps it up.

And no, we NEVER let anyone shoot for the ghost, in fact, you are NOT allowed to. You can wait up until the second round begins for the other guy to show, if not, then he "ghosted" his first game, and he better show up before the end of the second round, and he can still play his last 4 games......

Not really sure why anyone would be mad... he should be mad at the guy who did not show, not you.

If it is against the rules, then why was it an issue? Maybe I missed that in your original post. In my APA league, which I am co-captain, it would be a forfeit of that final match. Bending the rules can create problems.

Our unspoken rule is, we are flexible until the other team pulls something kind of nitty.
Like forfeiting us when our player is minutes away from arriving,
or calling a technicality like "you put your hand in the pocket to catch a scratch".
Then we take all forfeits we legally can.

Otherwise, our mindset is "let's have a good night of pool with friends".
We'll wait for their guys and give them a chance to make up matches.

This is especially true for the very good players like your buddy.
They're interested in a challenge, not showing up and leaving the cuestick in the case,
coasting to a meaningless win via forfeit.

Guys like that don't sign up looking at some low percentage end-of-the-year payout,
which probably won't be a whole lot of money.
They signed up to play good competitive pool with other good players.
