I played in-house leagues for years with 2-man teams, 8-ball and 9-ball. For 8-ball, used a 9 point system - you got 2 points for making the 8, and 1 ball for every one of your opponents balls left on the table. We played 6 games each, where you only broke 3 of those games, so perfect game would be 54 points. You blew a potential perfect night even if you broke and ran every rack but made 1 solid and 1 stripe on the break, since your opponent would get credit for the 1 ball and you would only get 8 for the win.
I had many scores in the high 30's and low 40's, as did my partner and a few others over the years, and a couple in the mid 40's. The high for the leagues was 48 (9-9-9-8-7-6) for all in house leagues for all the years they played - quite a few matches.
One night I started off with a break and run on my break for 9. Then opponents broke dry twice and I ran out. Then I broke 2 more times and ran out both times, only making one or two balls of the same type. I had 45 points in 5 games. You can imagine what happened next - opponent broke, barely made a ball, and ran out - FOR HIS ONLY RUNOUT OF THE SEASON! He would have been the APA equivalent of a 5 maybe in 8 ball, so wouldnt' run out very often from the break at all. Had 2 bank shots, ran into balls, etc. but got out. So in one rack he squashed my chance at the first perfect night, blew my 6 win night (we kept track of those too), and blew my chance at high night (which was 46 at the time). Funny how things work out sometimes...
