League problem, opinions needed

At the beginning of pool league we had a 4 person line-up. Me, Corey, Timm, and Troy. I was nominated captain. About 6 weeks into the season Troy quit with no explanation. Timm recruited his friend Howie to play. We are a fairly decent team. Ranking in ability it goes me, Howie, Timm, and Corey. Corey played all year and only missed one week due to nearly dying in a car wreck. Timm has missed at least 3 times. The regular season is over and tournaments have started. Timm finished 6 games better than Corey. Now the problem. We won our 1st round in the tournaments, but just barely. Corey had a bad night and lost all 4 games. At the end of the night Timm told me we are going to sit Corey and bring in our old teamate Troy to shoot next round. I said no way. Timm argued that Troy is a better player than Corey (he is) and we want to win the tournaments so we need the strongest player. I again said no. Corey is a teamate. Timm can't just make that decision. We have never sat players before. Me and Corey are going to show up for the match next week, but if Timm trys to change the line-up me and Corey are going to forfeit all of our games and tell Timm he is not welcome on the team next year. I guess I would like to hear opinions on this issue. Thanks

I agree with you 100%. I personally would rather play with people I can depend on and would not try to replace someone just because I can find a better player. Particularly when the player in question quit the team with no explanation.

It is not always about winning at all costs...

My thoughts exactly!!

An old saying (paraphrased)... When it's time to dance, you dance with the one that you brought. :)

You're right... Cory's in... Troy stays out.

It's Bar League...

When you guys make it to the finals of the Mosconi Cup then think about benching someone....until then "It's Bar League!".
Troy sits and you are the better man for it.

TROY is definately out!!! we have had stronger players that have left half way through the year and want to come back in playoffs.SCREW YOU buddy!thats not what a teams all about sorry.I would totally respect your decission to walk.

Small team management is a delicate subject. And as starry vere over there has shown can result in emotional outbursts.

Whoever the captain is will have to remedy the problem? I quit my league team because it conflicted with my work schedule. The team didnt bother to ask so I never said anything.

Someone's got to step up and manage those issues directly.

I agree with everyone else. This Troy guy bailed on you. Your guy Corey just had a bad night - get his back and that'll boost his confidence.

I totally agree...I had a situation come up that really bothers me to this day. I was asked to join a coworkers team...when i did i lost my first night..but after that it was a wrap..i kicked but...well i brought my brother on to the team..he can play as well...so me and my brother are the two new kids on the block ..we are 4 since this is our first session ..we played at that time like 5-6ish...so our captain is loving it throwing both us just about every night..well there where to other guys who were ranked 4 or 5 who where there before me and my brother but were not as good as we were..so they didnt play very often..well one of those guys decided to join another team..now dont get me wrong..we all played , just when the chips were down and needed 2 strong wins...me and my brother were thrown..Both me and my brother thought that the guy that left, left because he wanted to start his own team..We later found out it was because he showed up 4 weeks in a row and never played...we lost a really good guy, i went and talked to him and told him i was very sorry and that i wish he would have voiced his opinion. I told him i would never let that happen again..and i meant it..well the whole thing really bothered both of my brother and i..later that session we where in the Tri-cup and need a sure win..our captain called my name..i told him i shouldnt play and that he should throw our other 5 who hadnt played...he looked at my brother and he said the same thing,,,although the guy lost, both me and my brother were there rooting and cheering for him trying to get him pumped up and really wanted him to know win or lose were behind you.

Never let winning come between whats right...damn..sorry for the long story..but if you know me on this forum ..i can get pretty long winded.hhehe

I agree with all the others. Corey's been loyal to the team, and the team should be loyal to him. Hey, if Timm wants Troy to play so bad, why doesn't HE volunteer to step down himself and let Troy sub for HIM? :D

You're doing the right thing. That's probably why they made you the captain in the first place. ;)

Check the rules

I am persuming this is APA. You get an 8 man roster. Is it even legal to change your roster back for the playoffs? Does Troy have enough games played?

I have been in that same situation as a team captain. Troy sits. He quit with no explanation and doesn't deserve one back. Good luck.

I can't say it any better than this. You're the captain, do that captian thing and be strong about it. Either the parties involved get over it or they don't. Do the right thing.

Screw Troy, Timm, and the horse they rode in on.
Corey plays, Troy can come and watch if he likes.

One thing I've noticed about pool players is that many of them have NEVER played any other sports and they have absolutely no understanding of the concept of what a team is. Many times pool "teams" are really just a group of individuals not a team at all.

Troy takes a hike, don't care how good he may shoot. Play the players that got you there!! Period.
You were nominated EL Capitan... You make the decisions.

Peace

You're the Captain dude, I don't know about your team, but on my team where I'm the captain, my word is law. Besides the guy quit on you, do you really want a quitter playing important matches for you? He has nothing invested in it.

Just my thoughts
