I'm wanting to play a league, but I've been out of the loop for a while. I'm not familar with all the different leagues going on now. I'm looking for something that pays good, not handicapped, small team (more money), and preferably on bigger tables. What is this 14.1 all about? I've played APA before, and that is not an option. Any suggestions appreciated.

Have not played APA in a long time. Hell it was called Busch League when I played and was only league in town. The BCA we play here in Okla. Is 5 people play 5 players 1 game. Nine ball same but 2 games. You get to play the best player, second best and so on. Constantly playing for everybody. Not wait to play APA and then sit through four more matches! One pocket is getting very popular and it's about time! One pocket complements all games very well. Absolute must for high level players.

I know this is obvious, but why not just call all of your local rooms and find out what leagues play there? If you have dedicated pool rooms (as opposed to bars with tables) available, they probably have leagues multiple nights per week. Then the trick is to find a non-handicapped one. Only way to find out is to call around.

Since you're looking for non-handicapped action, that suggests you play pretty sporty. In that case you should also check out local tournaments. The rooms in my area have regular scheduled tournaments on fixed days of the week.

When you find one let all of us know.

Best thing is to enter the local weekly tournaments. Let players get to know. There is always teams looking for new players. If you play good enough someone will ask you to be on their team. Don't rush into it. Make sure it is a team and league you want to be on. There will be plenty of opportunities if you wait long enough.

My team played in Bell Music (Valley asociated operator) and we went 50-8 and we made our money back minus quarters for the table. But we beat everyone over there. Not much competition. We've played BCA and in Lorain Music (another Valley associated operator) to get a little more competition. There is no money to be made in pool leagues... Especially not in bullshit APA... Maybe at state tournaments or vegas. If you want to make money you should be playing games on the side...lol

BCA Leagues

We have 5 man BCA 8 ball on tuesday nights. 3 different brackets for the different skill levels. and about 14-20 teams in each bracket. all the teams get paid for points standings at the end of the season (3 seasons in 1 year) starting at 1000 for first and 125 for last and playoff winners for each bracket get 3500 for the vegas trip or to just spend. That is 9 winners a season.

On Thursdays we have 3 man BCA 8 ball teams that play for cash prizes. Also pays about 900 down to about 150 for last place. 3 brackets, about 8-14 in each bracket.

We have a new Wednesday night league that has 14 teams. 30 week seasons. Top points gets about 2000-2500 all the way down to last place that will make about 300 and the top 4 finishers get paid 4000 and down.

I just heard of a league called NAPA. I think it might get started here as in house for Fast Eddie's. Has anyone heard of this league? any input?

For 14.1 Continuous Pocket Billiards, otherwise known as Straight Pool, visit that section of the forums and consult a BCA rule book. The game that will teach you the most about pool, bar none.

That doesn't sound too bad, I used to play in a league similar to that but no 9 ball paid good too. One pocket league let me know, I might move there.

We only have one pool hall left in our town(cincinnati), they have dreaded APA. I have heard of another one with no handicaps, but I can't seem to get any info. There's not even any local pool hall tourneys, just bar table tourneys.

There's no money in the APA in the state or Vegas either. Winning the state tourney paid just a little more than Vegas did, getting 16th out of 700 and something teams. We only got $300 and change in Vegas, and had to get up at 8 a.m. to play a couple/few days in a row. That was too much like work, and not the vacation I was hoping for. I would have probably made more hourly working at McDonald's. We could have won it all or at least made it to the final 4, but we had to dump because we were in handicap trouble.
