For Leagues that send teams to Vegas, what is the typical financial arrangement?

What does the league pay for and how?

I play in 2 leagues that send/provide funds for teams to go to Vegas to play in tournaments in May.

One is an in-house BCA league and the other is a traveling VNEA league.

For the BCA league the weekly dues were $75 per match. 80% of the teams won a trip. What we got out of our league dues was: free table time at almost any time of time of the day during the year (provided they were not on a wait), 3 rooms booked and paid for at the Riv from Tues thru Fri of the tournament, Tournament entry paid and 1500$ cash(per team) to help with travel expenses. The 20% that did not win a "trip" got the table time and the 1500$.

For the VNEA league dues were 60$ per match per team. 9 out of 10 teams got money back to go to Vegas in May (I just got back). Payback was 2300 per team and entry fee paid into the tournament. The league operator just keeps enough out of the dues to pay for the secretary to keep up the records and printing costs. He does withhold 650 of the 2300 as show up money and a deposit on your entry. The 650 is given to you in cash sometime during your first match. If you win a trip and as a team decide not
to go, the league does not pay your entry and 400 goes back into the league account for the next year. On this team we also have a team rule that the captain keeps all the cash until Vegas and we divide it up there according to how many weeks you played. i.e. a player that plays 40 matches will get 25% more than one that only played 30.

Hope this helps.

I don't play in the league, but I always participate in the fundraiser, buy raffle tickets and make a donation.
If one of our teams is going to the finals, they throw a fundraiser at the bar and the local Billiard supply gives them some cues and stuff to raffle off, and many of the local businesses' donate gift certificates and gift debit cards to raffle also, the bar tables are free all day and the owner of the bar pays for the food and soft drinks and buys a few rounds for all.

My team got about 6K to get there and stay. It will definintely cost me some out of pocket, but that's ok, I can handle a little expense of what amounts to a Vegas Vacation........

I might even take the dam tour :grin-square:

Mike...This info is 15 yrs old, but here's what I used to do with my APA teams... I put $1 from each player's weekly fee ($5/team) into the "travel fund". I sent 2 teams to Vegas every year. The travel fund, on average, generated about $10000 (from appx 60 teams). The winning teams got their team entry paid, their hotel rooms paid (4 rooms for 4 nights...about $1000), and $1500 in expense money. That totalled about $7000. The remainder was paid in cash prizes to the teams that competed in the 'playoffs', but did not win the trip to Vegas.

Hi Mike

Our League is BCA Sanctioned. It is a cash league and all teams have a payback. We use our team moneys to help offset the cost of Las Vegas. We don't expect anyone to pay our way, but the league helps a little.

See you this Summer. I think I now have 4 students for our school in Fargo.....SPF=randyg
