Learned something new

Its a must know of the double kiss in one hole. If you know its there then you can hit it thin or thick and adjust to get the pass, not saying that is going to pocket the ball, but it can be a deciding factor to get the ball to your side as opposed to screwing it up and selling out.

Kudos to you donny for being honest....theres tons of info out there that 99% of ALL players pros or not have no idea about. You should really pick up all the winning one pocket series and the position play in 3cush billiards from Eddie Robins. Regardless if you play one pocket or 3cushion, just skimming through them will make you a better player on the sole reason that your repertoire of shots will be increased. I've won many games of 9 ball and 8 ball using moves from the game of one hole, and using tracks from 3cushion.

the beards videos

There are also a couple of shots in the Banking with the Beard dvds where he shows you which banks are double kisses and how to avoid them.

As others have pointed out, the double-kiss line is usually closer to the pocket facing or point. Here's a complete demo with lots of examples:

Thanks Dave.

I guess my point however was in questioning the way Donnie wrote it in his original post.

"if you can shoot the cueball in the corner pocket past the ball you are banking there is no double kiss."

As questioned by another poster and then the quote I showed from Koehler's book, there just seems to be a contradiction.

there's hope for us yet

This post by Donny Mills is why i like this forum.A top player professes
his ignorance and we all learn something.Cudos to Eddy and Freddy. The
game is advanced on the shoulders of giants. This is why Ronnie Allen
says young players know shots it took him 10 years to learn.
As Carlot Mills gets more skill at 'parking' whitey he gets closer to the
day he can use a major trophy as a hood ornament.
.....i kinda like the flame wars also....

I saw some thread on here about beating the double kiss when banking. One thing said if you can shoot the cueball in the corner pocket past the ball you are banking there is no double kiss. I really never knew that. So in the last week I've just become a better player. This would and would've come in very handy on some push outs that were given to me.

I wonder what else I don't know about banking and double kisses etc.

Not sure why, maybe one of the resident sci-guys would know, but in the diagram below, assuming that the 1, 2, 3 and cue balls are all lined up towards the top face of the corner pocket, the 3 ball bank is not a kiss. There is probably some kind of reason relating to the proximity of the object ball to the cue ball and the proximity of the object ball to the rail to be banked off of.

Tom and I cover this (for one example anyway) in the video. Check it out. Here it is:

The angle of entry on the 3ball is wider than the other shots, add that to the extra distance the ball has to travel and you get a bankable 3. Its a passover bank. It lets you drift the CB up and against the short rail to avoid the kiss. Some angles that are kisses can be avoided using the same technique and adding some inside or outside to help the CB drift in a particular direction and also to lengthen or tighten the OB towards the directed hole.

As such, its close to tell but I'm pretty sure I could bank that 2 ball also with some inside follow, leaving the CB in b/t the top two diamonds on the short rail, and missing the kiss.
