Can't really answer.

I think I have one of each from dirt cheap vinyl up to and around twice the OMG.

So what I prefer depends on what I'm bringing, where I'm bringing it to, how and then of course, why.

:)

I like the way you think.

How about this....the world is taken over by an evil dictator. New laws are passed and enforced strictly. In this new world you will be stabbed, shot, then hung by the neck if you have more than one case. So you can only have one. So......if you could only have one, which kind/style would it be?

Of course, if you would simply keep them all and accept execution I completely understand. :)

Truth about "depends on the situation"...Love my 3X6 Justis, so use it the most. This because I play most in a hall where I'm known. Also have a cheap Tailwan cue in a cheap tube case for playing in seedy bars.

Death before disarmorment of course.

But for the sake of discussion, gimmie a minute and I'll put up my "If my life had no meaning and I could have only one rig, rig."

So Doc, What your saying is if Obama appointed a cue case Czar would I trash my spray painted Action? Yeah, then a 2-3 Whitten gator/peanut would be my one true love.

The "Chris" case by JB. High quality monster. Lots of storage, lots of options for using it, and unequivocal protection. 3x4 or 2x5. Removeable insert in one cavity that lets me store my Lomax jump butt just like a normal butt. Oiled leather - scuffs rub right out. It's no light weight. If I still went to Vegas every year (been there, done that) I'd take something much lighter & trimmed down. John brought my wants to reality, so I guess this is my vote.
btw - the circle on the middle pocket contains a laser engraved copy of my hand written "Chris" signature. Guess I'll keep it.

We're seeing some really nice cases posted with really great descriptions of their features and qualities, pros and cons.

JB comes up a lot, and I am not surprised about that. The case above is a great example. That is a serious case.

Alright Chop , this is the if I could have only one.....

Thanks for all the responses.

The cowboy style cases are big leaders and people aren't afraid to spend serious money for them. I suspected that would be.

I am surprised that we don't see more comments about types of cases or features desired that aren't in the poll.

We see lots of styling from different makers, and beautiful tooling. We also see lots of little technical innovations. But the vast majority of it seems to be centered on the cowboy case. Personally, I find that style of case less than adequate as far as function, but that's me. I am just surprised that more people don't want more and/or different....or at least that's what it looks like in this little poll/thread.

Has the cowboy case really shown us the epitome of the cue case? Is there nothing more? It's a rhetorical question really. Just food for thought more than anything else.

Personally, superior cue protection, great style and reasonable sized storage is all you should need. Its just pool. :) I mean if that's good enough for 99% of the worlds top professionals it oughta be just fine for me. It makes wonder sometimes about people that have excessively complicated case requirements that maybe theyre obsession might be slightly misplaced. ;)

I understand. But the Cowboy case does not seem to address those practical matters as well as it might IMHO. So it still comes down to style. In addition, most people are not pros so their requirements are likely different.

For me cue case decisions are:

does it hold what I need (pocket qty & size, cue qty)
is it easy to carry (handles, shoulder strap, weight)
does it provide the level of protection I want (for me, no envelope cases)
color,style,decoration

I chose cowboy case, although I don't like cowboy/western style tooling.

I use one cue. So, my Thomas 1x2 with accessory cup meets my needs well.

I just don't like carrying 5lbs of luggage with me every time I go to shoot.

Josh

I have a few different cases but the next and last case I purchase will be a tube case for one cue. I no longer see the need for carrying a whole plethora of cues. 1 good cue, that's all I need. I don't jump, I use a house cue to break and really think a guy who shows up with 6 cues to play with and can barely run 5 balls looks kind of stupid.

But hey... that's just me.

Cool. Those comments are more along the lines of what I thought.

Less can be more. Luggage is too much. Liking cowboy features but not styling.

Thanks so much for participating. I really find the idea of form follows function as primary in design and it looks like others do put it high on the list as well.

I get you on that. Let me ask....beyond that comment....what do you see as the ideal tube case? Is there something already made past or present? What kind of things would you see in the ideal tube case for you?

Seems like a simple case, but it can really be more complex and hit or miss the mark. What would hit the mark for you? Latch/no latch. Feet/no feet. Lock/no lock. Air tight/not air tight. Lid storage/no lid storage. Side pocket/no side pocket. Leather ends/plastic/wood/other. Removable liner/non-removable liner. Handle/no handle. Shoulder strap/no shoulder strap. Zipper opening like Whitten/cap like Thomas, GTF, or Fellini.

I'm sure there is more, that's just off the top of my head.

What makes a great tube case.

I just grabbed that tube case comment to see if we can expand. Anything about making better cases is of interest.

Thanks everybody.

I would like a simple case, dark leather or a nice dark skin. No pockets, handle, strap or fancy stuff, maybe a place for some chalk and a scuff-er in the lid. I like the plainer look of a case, a nice latch in silver, not a buckle.

The air tight is not a necessity but maybe a good idea for long term shelf life if something happens where I put my cue in the closet.

I fell in love with an old mans case when I was a kid and have not seen one like it since. It just says "serious" pool player, not "Look at me and all my crap".

But like I said, That is just me.
