Leather Tip for Jump / Break

The group I play with has banned all non-leather tips. So what do you find to be the best of the leather tips for a Jump / Break cue? I posted on another forum which recommended Tiger's break tip, but I would love to hear everyones opinion here.

What???

What do you mean 'your group' has banned all non-leather tips? Who is your group? your league? your Pool room?

A local league operator can not ban tips if the National office permits the use of them in the National tournament, FYI.

But, to answer your question, a water buffalo tip is the next hardest.
And X-Breaker just came out with the X2 tip, which is a leather composite tip that is extremely hard.

Sorry, should have been more specific... it is an informal group of friends that play each other (ie, take each others money) on a regular basis. We took a vote, and phenolic and composite tips are gone.

Have you used the hard WB tips? Are they good for power and control? Thanks, and I appreciate your response.

I use Talisman hard tips (not the water buffalo). To make jumping easier, I tend to cut them down to half height before installing.

Well

I'd be damned if I would change my Break/Jump cue tip and/or a jump cue tip for an 'Informal Group' of friends. I would tell them to ESAD  unless I was winning at least 3 figures from them on a regular basis, but somehow I get the feeling that what you are playing for is small bucks.

Majority does not rule in cues, it's either unanimous or not!

Anytime there is a question regarding rules about equipment, it is BCA rules.

what do any of you care what they agreed on? the guy's just aking what kinda leather tip you like for your J/B. if you don't have an answer to that, just move on.

personally, i'm for outlawing phenolic tips in general. but hey, that's another story.

You are right, I am not making any substantial money from these guys, but as a group we think these non-leather tips are taking away from the game. But as already stated, that is for another thread...

How do you feel the Talisman v. WB v. Tiger stack up? Is there one you personally like much more than the others, and if so why?

I can't speak to the others you've mentioned, but I've got a Talisman BK tip on my Predator BK2... I like the way that it breaks... and I've also played a few 9-ball racks with it after breaking and it plays just fine. I have no idea on how it would jump... not very well I am guessing... but in all liklihood, probably just as good as most all other non-phenolics.

Tiger Jump/Break is the one you need!

break jump tip

To be honest you can jump with just about anything if you have a good stroke. I have taken a triangle and soaked it in water then pressed it for a couple days. They get real hard. Tiger Laminate Medium is what I use. It gives me the option to be able to play with it if I only want to carry one cue. In my opinion you need a good threaded ferrule as much as a hard tip. if you want more info email me.

Talisman

Talisman BK for me. When I make a ball on the break, I just keep shooting with it till I run out!

Ditto.

OP, If you install it and cut it down so the wall is about a nickel high, the tip jumps and breaks really well. I have one on my J/B and it's awesome. You can get five for less than $10 on ebay.:)

I'm a big fan of taking any known hard tip, and pressing it in a vice for a long period of time to compress it. Works wonders. Typically, I use Triangles.

I have a brass ferrule with a triangle on my jump cue. You have to stroke it a bit harder, but it works great. Jump masse is effortless.
