Leather vs. Vinyl cases

It appears that leather cases are around twice as much as vinyl cases.

What are compelling reasons, if any, to shell out the extra money for a vinyl case, looks aside? i.e. do they last longer/hold up better under long term conditions?

Durability, flexibility in design, natural material vs. synthetic, feeling of leather.

Leather typically lasts longer than vinyl. However this depends on the types being compared. Some vinyl is incredibly durable. In cue cases however most vinyls used in cheapo cases are not the high quality types.

It really depends how you use your case, are you a rough user? How long do you intend to use the case for, 3years, 5years, 10years?

Vinyls are getting more and more durable, I've seen their progress and cars(lower end) have been using alot of that for that seats so that accounts for something.

With that said, leather definitely wears better, generally more durable and can withstand weather better.

Vinyl will last long only if it doesn't "move" or fold much, if it has to succumb to constant folding and twisting then it's no match for a leather.

I have an old leather george case, it has to be 25 years old by now. Nice case, I think it will last forever. But even though its not that big, its too heavy to lug around with 3 cues in it. I like the idea of the new age of disposable goods. 40 bucks for a light, 3 cue case, or a dvd player for the same 40? I never thought the day would come.

Yes, I have an old Instroke vinyl case (3 butts 5 shafts) that crimped/folded slightly at the bottom. It won't stand up on its on any more:crying:
