Left my cue in the freezing cold

Like a bonehead, I left my cue in the car last night. And all day today, in the freezing (11 degree) Chicago cold. What kind of damage will that do? I took it down to my basement table, and it rolls straight and seems fine. Might I have done some damage?

Wow!!

I am in the Chicago burbs and it was so cold today my teeth hurt, but only when I smiled.....
You have to be really careful with ivory in freezing temps though as it has a certain amount of moisture in it, if you do not have ivory in your cue you 'may' be OK..

Main thing is to try to warm up slowly. Its like taking a cold beer out of the fridge and seeing condensation on the can. Moister is the cues worst enemy.

Probably none. Condensation may form as the cue warms up so keep it wiped down. Epoxy resins can be affected by extremely low temps, so handle it gently until it gets near room temperature.
A friend of mine once brought his cue into the poolroom after it had sat out in his car in single digit temperatures. He screwed it together, tapped the floor with the butt, and broke a really pretty ivory butt-cap.

ditto,

Though I don't have any ivory inlays or anything. But I tend to practice before I go out at night (better than sitting around at home watching tv), I often leave my cue in the car and I've never had a problem.

Hopefully nothing happens, you may be fine at this point only time will tell. All cues that are made out of wood have moisture in the wood used to build them, this moisture content is what gives the wood flexibility. As the normal moisture in any cue freezes the wood will expand, and this can loosen parts on the cue or even cause the wood to split. The fact that the cue has a solid finish on it only increases this problem, and in some cases the finish will crack due to expansion. Like I said above I hope nothing happens but only time will tell. The most common problem is that a rattle will develop over time.

Good Luck.
