Lepro tips?

I just got a new lepro tip put on, and it seems like a very soft tip to me, from my previous lepro tip. I am sure it is just because it is new, how long does that ussually last, should I just go head and replace it with a harder tip like a triangle? Is there much difference?

sorry for the boring post, but any advice would be appreciated, thanks much!

Lepros' still seem to vary in quality quite a bit and have for years. If they don't mushroom a lot so that you have to keep shaping them all the time, they aren't too bad. The last pair I had on my playing cue lasted some time. Sorry I can't remember how long, a year I think, but I wasn't playing everyday. The few triangles I've had, I was working on them all the time. Mushroomed something terrible. Recently switched to Mooris, which I prefer.

Lepro tips can be inconsistent with the soft/hardness. Who ever you have put your tips on, you can ask him/her for a harder lepro, or at least have him compact it for you.

The quality of a lepro tip once its on is generally determined by how you prepare it. Spend the time shaping it once up front, and burnish it well. You shouldnt have to continue shaping it if you prepare it the right way the first time.

It will depend on how often you play and how hard you chalk for how long they last.

like Perk said "preparation",,,,

another thing that greatly diminishes tip life is the person installing the tip, e.g. overheating the tip, cutting in the wrong direction, improper (or no) burnishing, & the list goes on,,,,,,,,JMHO

I used Le Pro tips for 10+ years, and I always dreaded having to put a new one on because the new one always felt spongy to me compared to the one I just took off. I discovered that the real issue was that I didn't start liking a Le Pro tip until it was about 1/2 way worn out, lol. I finally started cutting the crown off of new Le Pro's and reshaping them to firm up the hit a little.

I watched a local cue maker get a couple of boxes of new LePro tips delivered. He sat at the pool hall counter and bit each and every tip. He threw out about 20 tips in a box of fifty. He said he very seldom would get a box of 50 without some bad tips. He said he has thrown out over 30 tips in some boxes.

LePro tips just suck.

Upgrade to a layered tip.

im not one to shoot too hard and the one that came with my cue mushroomed big time. i have a friend who had one installed a while back and he breaks with his and his has hardly mushroomed. just luck of the draw i guess. i have had a morri on mine for about 6 months now and have had to shape it only once. id spend the extra little bit to get a quality layered tip if i were you.

I had one put on my Olney at DCC. Very hard. Have to keep working
on it to prevent mis-cueing. I HATE it.

One other thought, some guys years ago, used to put Lepros' in a vise and squeeze the bejeezuz out of 'em before they had them put on. Seemed to cure the "too soft" thing. But, if I were you, I'd go to a good layered tip.

Pressing them in a vice is good idea. Local guy presses a bunch of Le Pros in a big floor vice. One group with 6 tons of pressure, the other with 10 tons. The 6 ton version is the best non-layered tip I've ever used.

While that may be a little harsh, there's probably a very good reason why the Tiger Everest is now the standard tip on the new Predator shafts instead of Le Pro. Let me just say also that I think that the Everest is leaps and bounds better than any Le Pro I've experienced...and not only that, but I also now prefer Everest to Moori any day. I used to use Moori simply because of the reputation, but having the Everest on my Predator, I have fell in love with the tip.
