someone mentioned in another thread that some cuemakers are selling custom cues at fairly low prices. i guess my questions are:

1) who?
2) website?
3) quality?
4) how low?
5) etc, etc

I'm not sure about the thread you are talking about, but a lot of up and coming custom cuemakers usually start their cues kind of low to get their reputation up. There's a few custom cuemakers around that make pretty nice custom cues for low prices. At some time, all the cuemakers started out in the business selling quality custom cues for half their retail price. Sorry, but I can't remember any urls off the top of my head since I've only bookmarked the known cuemakers. I'll keep my eyes open and respond if I come acroos any soon.

My vote goes to John Parker of Auerbach Custom Cues in Tulsa, OK 74006

John's Cues are definitely up there with the highest of standards. He has been in business for 10 years. He stands behind his work & guarantees satisfaction.

You might check the roster of The American Cuemaker's Association at www.cuemakers.org. Most of them have url's shown. My last cue purchase was from Dan Janes at www.josscues.com. I'm thrilled with the quality I got for what I consider to be a very reasonable price!

Going Canadian can save you alot of money due to the exchange rate. Bernie Mikkelsen is making cues in Calgary that hit like a dream. Virtually all the top players in Calgary shoot with them and if you look at the amature scene in Calgary you can see that the city is full of alot of strong players that win way more then their share of the 8-ball masters and open level events in Vegas. Edwin Montal was likely shooting with his Mikkelsen when he played Jimmy at the Reno Open. Tyler Edey used one on his way to getting 2nd in last years masters 8-ball in the BCA losing to Brian Groce in the finals. These are awesome players and they know how good Mikkelsen cues feel and how much power they have. Bernie himself is a top player and has won tons of tournies like the Northern Lights for $10,000 with such players as Archer and Varner.

If you want to contact Bernie let me know at Lyonspride@hotmail.com and I will get his contact info and stuff. I had a webpage for him that may still work for ya but last I tried it it was not working from here in Oz.

His cues start at about $500 American but where the real deals are is in the multiple points and ringed cues that are a fraction of the cost of other cue makers making such good hitting cues.

You can find a lot of "players cues" at good prices from a lot of cue-makers..

Talk to Mike Webb www.webbcues.com

Layani out of Quebec Canada www.layanicues.com

Jerry from blackheart cues over on CCB

Keith Josey makes some affordable cues www.joseycues.com

Go to a pro tour event in your area. There is usually a local cue-maker doing repairs that will be more than happy to let you test drive one of his cues.

I personally have been playing with a Layani for over a year and I am very pleased with it. Had it fit with a predator shaft (mainly because I was used to playing with a predator) and it hits like a dream.

Try this, it worked for me, albeit slow.

www.dzcues.com A FANTASTIC CUE!!
www.dominiak.com A great cue, but might take a while to get one, I also sell them. www.zimsrack.com
Ted Harris and Mike Webb make great cues, Aurbauch is an upcoming cue maker as well. There are so many "unknown" cuemakers out there to list. As suggested earlier, check the Cuemakers list from the ACA.

Best of luck,
Zim

I prefer Jacoby cues. My 8 point with 4 veners each point was quoted to me by several custom makers at $1000+ until I found Jacoby who sold me at $750. Paul at Jacoby is very professional and easy to work with. Check them out http://www.jacobycue.com/ right now they are making me a custom break cue to match my shooting cue, identical set up without the points, cost $350. Their customer cues are cheaper than their production cues. Give Jacoby a chance they are awesome hitting cues.

Sometimes it also depends on how long you are willing to wait. Blackheart, for instance, makes a nice cue at an affordable price but the wait is about a year, the last I heard. Layani is also good and I think you would get the cue faster. I have heard great things from the folks I know who have Layani cues. I would not consider them real inexpensive but considerably less expensive than say a scruggs or blud.

Tom and Grady Coker makes great cues at real afforable price. Coker cues hits like a SouthWest but without the high price tag and long (6year) wait. A 6 point, 2 veneer cues with silver/exotic wood ringwork everywhere retails for $975. But Ive been selling them at way lower than that :D . PM me if you are interested.
