I haven't signed any contract which tells me that I have to organize those qualifiers.

I have just signed one contract, and that's for buying equipment.

The qualifiers have been agreed on by phone, so I guess I could easily cancel (or postpone ;)) if I choose to do so.

The reason for still waiting is:

1. It's still 3 weeks to the scheduled qualifier at my poolroom will take place
2. Maybe the IPT have realized that they need to change format, with lower payouts, fewer tournaments, and what so ever, and perhaps the IPT will continue in some form the next year. If that form is acceptable I might go on with the qualifier
3. Maybe HO Interactive sends out a press release within the next weeks, telling that they have closed a deal with the IPT.

Because of this I am still waiting, but I am not gonna encourage any player to actually play the tournament, before there is good news

This is perhaps the Impossible Dream and you can't pull the rug out from beneath them - that's not your respnsibility.

There are pool room owners and players that have no clue about the current status of the IPT. Educate them on the non-payment, the non-communication, and the answers of "I don't know" coming from KT about the future of the IPT.

Let them make an informed decision about holding and playing in qualifiers. No one can force them to NOT give their $2000 to KT but at least they can make an informed decision.

I very much doubt that the pool room owners and tournament directors of these qualifiers don't know know what is happening with the IPT.

It is a sticky situation to say the least. As we truly do not "know" any of the real happenings at the IPT we cannot say for sure that it is operating as a fruadulent entity or not.

I would feel completly dissolate if I advised a player not to play or gave out "information" that was geared towards that end and the IPT came through and that player did not play based on my information.

In this case it is truly caveat emptor. If a player is willing to put up the money then it is his duty to be fully informed of the risks. It is not our duty to assume either the player or the host's level of ignorance or knowledge in this case.

I want to ask if this same level of militancy could be applied to promoting a REAL tour? Would anyone in this group be willing to invest their REAL money and REAL time into a publicily funded tour?

fact: KT used infomercials to sell a book, a book people.

fact: The book has been proven discredited.

fact: informercials are paid by the promoter, so they can make money.

fact: infomation in an infomercial is untested and everyone in them is paid to read cue cards.

fact: the promoter of natural cures is promoting billiards

not fact: the promoter of the IPT is holding billiards as his first concern.

fact: KT used infomercials to sell a book, a book people.

Okay, apparently a good way to sell a book based on the numbers reported.

fact: The book has been proven discredited.

It's discreditation was proven? When was it ever accredited?

fact: informercials are paid by the promoter, so they can make money.

I would hope that the promoter is not doing it to lose money. That would be economically silly.

fact: infomation in an infomercial is untested and everyone in them is paid to read cue cards.

We can't know this to be true for all infomercials. I really want to believe that the .22cnts a day send to the United Children's Fund really helps Emily to go to school. And I can't believe that Billy Miles would ever lie to me about Oxy Clean's miracle properties.

fact: the promoter of natural cures is promoting billiards

I think that Trudeau took great lengths to tell us that.

not fact: the promoter of the IPT is holding billiards as his first concern.

Again, we don't know this to be true or not. For all we know Trudeau has billiards as his number one priority in order to realize a return on the investment he has already made. It is apparent however that he does not have the immediate welfare and well being of the players as his number one priority based on the actions and statements made by him.

It was implied when the term billiards as a first concern meant,
its players and supporting staff.

I dont think of billiards as some entity devoid of people.

I did lack citing any proper citing of people who did what they did to make billiards what is. I apologize.

Roadie, while I haven't always agreed with your positions, I've always found them to be rational and reasonable. This one is the exception.

It is a sticky situation to say the least. As we truly do not "know" any of the real happenings at the IPT we cannot say for sure that it is operating as a fruadulent entity or not. True, we do not know that "for sure", but any reasonable person with all the currently available information would most likely avoid becoming involved with the IPT

I would feel completly dissolate if I advised a player not to play or gave out "information" that was geared towards that end and the IPT came through and that player did not play based on my information. Why not simply give out the facts without gearing it in any direction? I think that the facts have already taken a direction of their own. And, would you feel any better if several of your friends and colleagues entered qualifiers only to later learn that there was no tour to play in?

In this case it is truly caveat emptor. If a player is willing to put up the money then it is his duty to be fully informed of the risks. It is not our duty to assume either the player or the host's level of ignorance or knowledge in this case. I guess these are the rules of the jungle, I prefer to think that we all exist in a more civilized society.

I want to ask if this same level of militancy could be applied to promoting a REAL tour? Would anyone in this group be willing to invest their REAL money and REAL time into a publicily funded tour? Militancy? I don't understand why anyone would question the intentions of those that are simply suggesting that we share factual information with friends and colleagues, information that they may appreciate and that may help them avoid some obvious problems. It's difficult to understand someone advocating against sharing the truth. And, yes, many Az'ers offered different varieties of assistance to the players, including discussing ways to organize a new tour.

Edited to say: Andreas Koukiadakis from Greece won the other qualifying spot in Atlanta.

From looking at the IPT web site i understand that 55 people played in all the qualifiers. only 1 qualifier did not report who won and how many players. Who got free entry.. i don't know. I just counted how many players in each one...being nosy i guess...lolol.........mike

Given that the IPT players have not yet been paid for past events and the uncertainty about future events, it seems prudent to me that the pool room owners and prospective players in the qualifiers should put their plans on hold pending some definitive news on the future of the IPT.

It doesn't seem very wise to me for a player to spend $2000 on upcoming qualifiers without knowing what the future of the IPT will be.

Room Owners are not Screwed.

The room owners are pretty much screwed. They had to sign a contract with the IPT in order to get these qualifiers hosted at their locations. Once the contract is signed, I don't think the room owners have any choice but to host it.

I sincerely hope for the best for the room owners. There is no telling of what can and will happen to them if the IPT decides to fold.

John

P.S. I WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR TO ALL PEOPLE THAT THE POOL ROOM SPORTS BAR & GRILLE DID NOT "BEG AND PLEAD" TO HOST A QUALIFIER. I REFUSED TO SIGN A CONTRACT WITH THE IPT IN ORDER TO HOST THESE QUALIFIERS. JOHN DUONG

The Pool Rooms did not have to sign a contract demanding that they host Qualifiers.
They must Use all IPT related Equipment to be considered to host an Event and be considered an IPT Certified Room.
So any rooms that have Hosted events did it on there own free will!
Room Owners spending the money to make there room IPT Certified wasted the money on a dead end dream!

Well I agree with you on the prudence given the lack of a guarantee. The IPT however has given out information that everything is going to be all right.

Like I said I wouldn't be comfortable telling a player not to compete. I would feel completely comfortable telling him my opinion and what I would do. That would be to forgo the chance that the IPT will be able to deliver on it's promises. I would stress however that I could live with that decision should the IPT succeed and that they should make a decision based on how they feel about it and not based on how I feel about it.

Perhaps this is what Timberly means by informing the rooms and players. I caution everyone to be very careful about the information you disseminate. It is not outside the realm of reality to expect Trudeau to litigate if something is stated as fact which harms the IPT's ability to do business. So please be careful in how you word such warnings and stick to the facts.

Perhaps, if the IPT really intends the qualifiers to be a major revenue stream, then it is the host locations that can put the needed pressure on the IPT to come clean. The IPT has been extremely clever however in having the money for entries paid in advance as well as receiving money for equipment from the hosts.

Speaking of room owners and unity. Why isn't there an association of room owners in the United States? I have no idea how many pool rooms there are in the United States. I have no idea how many of these are interested in promoting pool at all. It seems however that an association of room owners could build and run a tour which would definitely have grassroots support and not need massive ballrooms and "million" dollar productions. Well, just another wish.

A grass roots organization that is what AZ is offering and has provided. I was at the AZ room for the DCC 06.

What else do you need some kind of broadcast email about the latest happenings, the BCA sends those out.

If IPT goes chapter 11, anybody want to split the pot and buy the organization, it should be a lot cheaper than what estimates are saying.

And first drop any association with KT.
Then we can rebuild the company, rename it and see what its book say are possible for payouts.

A collection of well meaning and enthusiastic people is not an organization. AZ has a wealth of talent and experience. How many of us are willing to transform our admiration for the game into the job of building it? That's the real question? How many of us could afford an hour, ten hours or 40+ per week to devote to this endeavor?

The only assets the IPT has at this point is a video library of 8-ball matches. If we were to build an organization then it wouldn't be very long before we were able to build a library of content to match or exceed the IPT's for a lot less money. There is nothing the IPT has done that cannot be duplicated with the right resources. It is what the IPT has not done but promised which is difficult. Namely fund a tour with guaranteed payouts for two years while building a base of qualifiers, advertiser income, and subscription income.

Grassroots begins at the local level. That means each of us is responsible for local promotion and recruitment. We are the roots that build the national and international network. We show involvment and commitment and prove to the market that we are a base worth supporting. That type of effort requires far more than broadcast emails and a recreation room at at a yearly tournament. The AZB room however is an example of just the type of commitment and organization that would be needed in an ongoing basis to create a tour worth having.

That's exactly what I was talking about. I don't want people calling room owners and players all hysterical an repeating rumors. I simply want people to present the few facts that we have to date, and let people make their own choice. I'm not advocating calling people and saying "DON'T hold qualifiers". I'm advocating people calling and/or writing a letter that contains the facts and telling the person that you're talking to that you're not trying to tell them what to do, you're simply educating them on the current events so that they can make an informed decision.

There really are room owners and players that are not aware. The last big tournament I went to was the US Open and a handful of people commented to me how they couldn't believe that there were still people that didn't know what was going on. Players in their pool rooms would say that they heard something about players not getting paid and wanting to know if it was true.... there really are people out there that do not know.

I simply want people to be informed with the facts, that's it. Decisions are up to them and I do not advocate trying to tell someone what decision to make.

the collection or group(org) of AZ may or may not have people located near an IPT qualifier.

If the IPT goes belly up and someone buys the name rights.

People are already in place to assert their regional influence. IE John Smith in Anytown with IPT can discuss terms face to face with the host room, about changes in IPT format.

About this topic of educating people:

It's quite interesting to see that almost no one knows what's going on. I understand why players pay 2 000 $ to qualify, for they believe that the IPT paid out 500 000 $ to Efren Reyes, and they have seen it live on tv so they believe that everything is ok.

They click on www.internationalpooltour.com, and everything looks ok. So they sign up.

Remember that only a few people visits this forum everyday, compared to those who knows about the IPT.

Hi Roy. It would seem to me that the players know more than you give them credit for. A couple weeks ago, when things weren't looking good at all, qualifier turnout was atrocious. Then came the pop the champagne announcement, and the players started lining up again to qualify.

I don't know if the players are up to date, or about a week behind, but qualifier turnout would seem to suggest they are following the story to some extent.

I could be wrong; I'm not actually tallying any numbers, but it sure seems the qualifiers have experienced some degree of a resurgence.
