we need BCA or anything in louisville, ky it seems to have vanished? and a show would be so cool. lots of new attractions, hotels and a new arena and nothing for pool. =( any thoughts promoters to contact?? we lost the derby a few years back not sure the whole story there? and with it everything left leaving a bunch of good players playing bar box's and waisting away or having to travel 8 hours away or more. id like some help from members here on putting louisville back on the map again. together we can do it with ease. i will do anything i can to get this ball rolling towards the pocket.

I've been playing pool in and around Louisville for 20 years and it amazes me that A city of this size(nearly A million people?) is so dead for pool players. There are several hundred league players but the true quality players are few and far between. Parkmoor was just before my time but I know several players from there that say just about any living human could get some kind of action there.
As far as A good tournament I just don't know if there are enough good players to support it. It seems that someplace is always trying to start A tournament but by the third or fourth week your down to ten or twelve players.
So to make A long story short, I'm with you Jonathan but I've learned not to hold my breath.

The Derby is like a 20 minute drive from the Louisville airport. Do you want someone to do a tournament in your garage or something?
:D

Like Justin said, the derby is basically in Louisville (at least I still consider it to be).

Also, you have BankShot, Diamonds, and the Louisville Billiard Club. All nice rooms and a decent size.

BankShot has tournaments all the time, I just played in a bank tourney and a 9 ball tourney not too long ago. There were some pretty sporty players there as well (Louis DeMarco, Truman, Gerald, Brian Roberts, Greg Sullivan). You can get action there if you want it.

I don't understand what the complaint is. If you saw some of the other cities and their state of pool, you would be very excited you lived where you do. It may not be the best city in the country, but you could do a lot worse.

BAck on the map?!

Have any good players ever come from KY? :sorry::eek:

I think pool, as we want it, is off the map all over...sadly.

I had me a fine time at the Louisville Billiard Club. I won and lost, laughed and cried, i was even chinese for a while.

Good times, thank you E.

When Parkmoor burned down, that was the end of a great pool room. Open 24 hours a day. Medium, good, great players. The better players were willing to play cheap, Patch Eye, Johnny, Chinaman, Bob Bowles, Whitey, were all regulars. Having the "Derby Classic" in Indiana is sacrilouge. A Kentucky event in Indiana? I have often considered sending a letter to the Derby Committe about the Derby event in Indiana. It's like Kentucky basketball having their home games in Louisville. You have to be from Kentucky to understand, especially if you grew up next to Churchill Downs.

Derby City Classic

I can't believe people complain about having to drive across a bridge for the "Derby City Classic". Go ahead and send your complaint to Diamond Billiards. I for one am extremely thankful Diamond puts forth the effort to promote the greatest tournament in this area. I am from Indiana, and I can honestly say that I liked it a lot more when it was at the Executive West in Louisville instead of in Indiana. I can also understand that things change. Be thankfull that Diamond found something that worked close by. Cheer up, it could be in California...

As far as getting good amature tournaments going, it all comes down to one thing doesn't it? If there is a good payout, the players will come.

Poolbum, Diamonds and the Billiard club are both bar/poolhalls. Both are quite nice and have many 7' diamond bar boxes. Each also has a couple 9' diamond pro ams.
As far as Billy, I haven't seen him recently which isn't unusual since he is really the only true road player from the area. To top it off he's battling throat cancer. Best wishes to him as he is a hell of a good player and a pretty nice guy too.

Thanks for the info. Sorry to hear that about Billy--he and I battled a few times back in the day.

Does BankShot still have Diamond tables? What is the neighborhood around there like?

Bankshot billiards still has the same tables they always had. On the main floor they have ten of the older 9' Diamonds with drop pockets. Although I prefer the newer smart tables with the ball returns, Bankshot takes very good care of their equipment. Downstairs there are some Goldcrowns and A snooker table.
As far as the neighborhood, it's just east of downtown Louisville and while I feel safe in the area I wouldn't want my wife and kids there after dark. There are no problems at all while at the poolhall.

Yeah, or like having the Pitino-man coaching Louisville, or...never mind.

thanks everyone for the great insight! i hope we can get some NEW thing rolling soon. we need exposure at every level! people drive right through here like pro stop tours, big tourneys, exibitions and more and dont stop.
