Let's Make Sure There's a One Pocket Hall of Fame Dinner This Year @ DCC!!

This is the epitome of foolishness. Why on earth would you be speaking in this manner about the founder of OnePocket.org? It's a wonderful resource to the historical record of pool, and the forum is just a forum, like this one.

It's an unpaid job to keep the One Pocket Hall of Fame record as well as the OnePocket.org website/forum going, and without Grady and Freddy, nobody has stepped up to the to help with the logistics of the once-a-year banquet.

If memory serves me right, Lou was a beneficiary of a free trip to a one pocket event sponsored by donations from OnePocket.org forurm readers, though I can't remember the year or place.

What a drag to read some of the posts in this thread. Give some credit where credit is due. It's okay to have opinions, but don't tear down the legacy of OnePocket.org and all that if offers.

No one is being disrespectful of Steve. If anything, he's the one being disrespectful, proudly talking about canning a couple of shit stirrers.

I went to several of Steve's HOF dinners and mentioned as much in several of my DCC trip reports. I also bought one of his one pocket.org polo shirts and a $300 auction item in support of the HOF. A few years ago I also arranged two onepocket.org dinners for guys attending the US Open out in Vegas. And while I will cop to posting some potentially inflammatory things and having had the temerity to disagree with some folks over there, you can also find all kinds of good things in my posting history that I contributed over the years. It's was pretty much the same stuff, in the same style, I post here. And so, one year I was nominated to be the site player rep for the US One Pocket Open but eventually had to decline because I had to fly out to CA to take care of my Mom, so in the end they sent someone else.

Theres nothing wrong with talking about the absence of the HOF dinner. Talking about pool is what we do here. It's actually a discussion they should have been having over there. In any case, blame Angel :-)

Angel is fine and speaks the truth with her kind words. Nothing wrong with that. She is just hoping to have a banquet again, as it means a lot to so many people.

But, Lou, sometimes your brutally frank manner can be abrasive. I'm sure you have contributed a lot by way of your trip reports, and that is great. I enjoy reading them. But I don't care to see anyone speak in an untoward manner about the founder of OnePocket.org or any of its activities. As such, I'm expressing my thoughts in this thread because some of the posts about the website and its owner/founder were really off the wall.

Everybody knows-

Hi Lou!

Everybody knows it's always my fault

JAM, I understand. But the fact is three years is a long time to put on one lousy dinner.

like a cheap wine:
brutally frank
slightly abrasive
with tasty hints of oak
mineral and plum :-)

Do you really think the adjective "lousy" is necessary?

For some, the banquet is an important recognition of legendary players, and many people enjoy hanging out together, talking about pool, and seeing friends they may not have seen for a long while. It's not about what is served for dinner.

Maybe it's time they don't offer a dinner for some lousy pool peeps and instead make the dinner an invitational.

I believe part of the issue here is that you sometimes take things in the worst possible way. Lousy as in: just one event in three years; not as in: a poor event.

I don't pay that much attention to what's going on over there anymore but it appeared to me that it was Disco and a couple of other guys that did the heavy lifting for that event. Just like JH is organizing the Super Seniors thing.

And while SJD might not be your cup of tea, he's a HOFer voted in by the membership on that site, so I'd say that he was more than a welcomed presence over there, by a lot of us.

Lou Figueroa

I was at the tournament and had a great time. I would say there are probably four people who were each critical to making it happen. Disco Dave and and Steve are two of them. LS John and Jeff Sparks are the other two. That's why I said "co-organizing." I think the successful group effort also highlights the nice spirit of collegiality at 1P.org, which is furthered by the absence of flame wars and trolling that Steve maintains.

Credit where it's due: I think Disco did put in the most hours leading up to the tournament and did it well.

What would be nice in this thread is to have a little shift in direction. For those who are upset about the lack of the dinner, instead of just whining, how about someone saying, "Hey, Steve, I really miss the 1P dinner. I know it's a lot of work and you get paid $zilch for it. Is there anything I can do to help you put on the next one?"

And then follow through. Any takers?

I am Sparticus.

SJD, I got whacked too, about a year ago. Nothing fair about it but it's his site. At the time, Steve told me that I could post but he'd have to approve each post... I told him to go pound sand :-) I'm proud of and satisfied with that decision. He's lost a few other good members in recent times, for a variety of reasons. But the remaining membership still has a good time over there, sitting in a circle and asking each other over and over, "What would you do?" (I kid, I kid.)

Back on topic, it is a shame that the 1pocket HOF dinner has fallen through the cravity. I mean three years, really. There are plenty of deserving guys that could be nominated and inducted. And having personally organized more dinners for 200-300 people -- complete with invitations, seating charts, elaborate menus, a program, entertainment, and such -- than I can count, it ain't that tough. But once again, it's his site.

Lou Figueroa

Anyone reading this should know that Steve is way beyond fair before removing the sh... disturbers. Lou stepped over the line several hundred times before he was finally removed. His constant knocking and unprovoked attacks reached a critical point before he was finally removed to the relief of many.

The only way that Steve was "not fair" was in not removing him and others of his ilk a lot sooner.

It's Steve's site and he's decided no dinner until 2018. If the membership *over there* decides they miss it, they'll speak up. But this discussion is on AZ and a few of us *here* don't have a voice *over there.* Doubt he'd want any shit disturbers helping out anyways :-)

Due to a breakdown of communications last year,
Steve Booth was unable to arrange The 1P HOF Dinner at The Derby City Classic.

We would all like to see this come to fruition this year-

Can we all start reaching out to him NOW on OnePocket.Org and FB and see if he needs any help?!

Angel,

Grady & Freddy had two of the biggest egos ever to grace this Earth and Freddy was the biggest ham in front of a camera that I ever saw. Point is it would take a lot to fill their shoes. A person would have to care enough to donate his time & energy knowing he'd get nothing in return except the satisfaction of a job well done.

They have the so-called "Voice of AccuStats" over there but he doesn't do anything for pool that he doesn't get paid to do. So much for him volunteering his industry.

It seems to me there's also an ex-player on this forum who could volunteer time and effort also.

P.S. It would be next year not this year:wink:

Well I guess now we have heard from all three of the only three regular posters that I felt like I have had to eventually remove in order to maintain a degree of civility over there in over ten years lol. Of course, none of it was ever their fault :)

As for the dinner, I welcome any and all doers, helpers and supporters in reshaping the dinner fir the future.

Me email is steve at onepocket dot org or PM for my cell phone.

Thanks for all of you who have supported the HOF over the years and who would/will in the future.

Lou, you're a writer -- are you seriously trying to say we weren't supposed to take the word lousy like some of us did? Then you stink as a writer.

You are far too sensitive. And how you insist on interpreting of my use of the word "lousy," after an explanation, is Exhibit A.

And puuuleeese don't talk to me about civility after you gloated about canning "shit stirrers." You wouldn't know civility if it came up and slapped you in the face.

Haa haa haa! If Steve represented civility and had to give Lou a civility spot it would the 2 out and the breaks and 6 games in a race to 7. I am kind of surprised Lou can even use the word civility in a sentence.

Thats funny. Sad that it is close to the truth.:sorry:

I try to be civil with those that are civil with me. When people are not civil with me I tend to descend to the level of whomever I'm parlaying with. (sigh) It's a fault, I know, but one I can live with. YMMV.

The trolls, who have repeatedly proved their posts have zero value added, I ignore.

You were annoying and basically never actually posted about 1 pocket in your time at 1P.org. Mr. 3C was annoying and occasionally posted about 1 pocket. It's much more enjoyable over there without you both.

Cory

It appears your opinion is/was not the popular consensus!..If you took the time to research some of my earlier days on 1P.org..you would find I contributed quite a bit to the game, and also offered some interesting past stories, which seemed to be very much appreciated! (some of which are still on the Beard's website, today!)

I was never a big fan of the WWYDs, as they seemed to be just a way for everyone to disagree with each other!..Whether or not they knew what they were talking about, often seemed to be secondary!..Except for participating in those [sic] 'enlightening' discussions, please show me what YOU have contributed to the site?..I admit, I did eventually lose interest, and let myself get side tracked, with the ongoing verbal warfare with Fred and Mr3-IQ..Isnt it pretty obvious, who Mr. Booth sided with on those issues! :sorry:

PS..If in all fairness, Mr3-IQ had gotten the axe before me, (like he should have)..I would probably still be active on the site!
