Billiards as a way of making living its not very respectfull job, unless you make $ quarter of a million a year, like Efren did few years ago. Moreover people think, that poolplayers are dumbest from all sports. I mean, they think, how smart you have to be to hit a ball, right? We all know, how this materialistic world goes around. Women are looking for doctors, lawyers, bankers etc. What kind of woman sticks to a poolplayer unless she play pool as well?

back in 2001, in an elevator at the BCA when it was played up top at the Penthouse of the Monaco Towers at the Riviera, i was talking with Robin Dodson's hubby. he was telling me about how there wasnt any $money$ in pool, and that Robin was about to quit playing tournaments.

said even if someone won every WPBA event during the year and the BCA they would only make about $50,000. take away expenses and thats a decent living, but only in a best case scenario where they win each and every tournament.

plus if you just finish in the top 10 of all the WPBA events and the BCA you would make only about $10,000, which is about enough to pay expenses.

as far as women pool players sticking with a guy, i shore do wish Ms. Baretta, Ms. Rousey, Ms. Fisher, Ms. Oyama, Ms. Pippin, Ms. Rhee, Ms. Ellerby, etc, etc, would stick with me!!! heck, i'd even settle for just one!

Pool players are also real charmers and have a good ability to attract others to them and keep their prey on the line. Attracting a woman is no exception.
If they're an upper echelon player like Johnny, hey...no problem and he did score with his wife. However, the long term prospects for a woman that want the finer things in life who aren't with a top 5 player are pretty bleak. Plus, they'll always be out gambling to supplement any tournament winnings and never be home. Nice life, huh? Kinda some of the points I was trying to make in another thread...hope the forum commando's don't attack you.

Some top players, like for example Ralf Souquet never gamble. He is really nice guy, takeing care of his wife, and obviously makes good living playing only tournaments all over the world.

That is correct, but Ralf is also one of the upper echelon players in the world making decent money on a worldwide basis through tournments, and probably makes more in other countries through endorsements, exhibitions, schools, and various other means because pool is viewed and treated better than here.
Let's go back to your original post of this thread, take away the top 10 in the world and what do you have? How many players outside of Ralf don't or didn't come up through the ranks gambling their nights away and what are their annual tournament winnings alone to provide for a woman and the finer things a family needs?

Exacly, it seems like 90% of players in the USA trying to make living gambling money back and forward and don't really have time to look for a woman. But I've notice, that even those from lets say top 20 have nice woman at the sight. Recently I've meet a girlfriend of Rodney Morris and she seems very nice girl :D

What happened to good old love? I think pool players are capable of loving....keyword "think". It is a rough life and there isn't much money. I like to think as long as you are happy with what your are doing and have friends and family that support you then you are rich. I'm not sure if many others feel the same as I do though.

Sarah...Bazarus wanted to know why a woman would go for a male pool player and the same reasons are there for any other person or occupation in life. Initial attraction, chemistry, love and so forth. But if you're basing a long term relationship on the more serious and realistic factors such as financial stability, amount of time together without both traveling, shared house duties or joint obligations, social life, family gatherings, children, nice home, car, and other goodies, it's tough. Let's flip this to why would a man go for a female pool player and use you as an example or some others that you know. I could see a whole bunch of reasons why a man would be attracted to you and want to date. But, what are the prospects on a long term basis for a strong relationship as far as a femle pro pool player contributing a lot in many areas that I listed above? Let's take away the top 6 in total earnings.

drivermaker,

You are right, he was asking why a woman would stay with a male pool player. My question to you is, if you were in love with someone would you not do whatever you could to preserve that? I agree, what does any pool player have to offer in a long term relationship with anyone? Probably nothing. I know I don't have a stable income but I do pay my bills and take care of everything that needs to be taken care of and most of all I am happy. But I guess that can only get you so far.

For the first 37 years of my life the answer to your question is......noooooo...
My dilemma was the same as yours, I always had two loves in my life at the same time. A professional sport and a woman (women). And the first love won out until then.

cute

I'm pleased to see you joinning this discussion ;)
Originally I'm from a poor, post communistic country (Poland), where money wasn't really that important! Most of the time I didn't had enough to make a living from month to month. Those days (up to 1990), would apply to about 90% people in my country. On those basis there where other important values like for example love. Ufortunatelly you won't survive on love only, so I decide to live my country, like lots of, lots of people!! It's been 7 years now, since I am in USA, and I have to admit, that I've got everything, that I didn't had back home through my whole life!!! I even have a pool table:) It seems like only culture, that America have is money, that is why I'm missing this feeling, that is called "love" :(

I definitely would not say that a man doesn't have much to offer simply because he is a pool player. There are plenty of "pool bums" that have loads of money...just don't ask how or where they got it. And there are plenty of non-pool players that are just bums...period.

A man can be a "pool bum" all he wants....as long as he takes care of his own obligations and commitments (no need to pay my bills....I can do that just fine on my own)...and as long as he is fair and honest in his dealings with other people...then there is no reason to use pool as a reason not to date him. (BTW...I know that pool players aren't the most honest bunch when it comes to matching up, etc....but when I say that a man should be fair and honest, I mean that he shouldn't steal candy from babies, cheat at the game, talk about other guys' mamas, etc. Scumbags are not attractive....no matter what profession or sport they are in.)

Hi Mellisa

Let me ask you this: since you are a pro player, would you choose to be with a man pool player, since you know, what kind of live serious pool players have?
