Let's talk injuries

I've got a couple questions for you cue makers...

1) What's the worst injury you've had making cues? (Accidental or bonehead maneuver)

2) Have you done anything safety wise to prevent it from happening again? Maybe it's something simple that can help other cue makers from repeating it.

P.S. Any pics added would be a bonus! :D
 
Pics? I don't think you want to see the pics the last cue maker posted.
I believe he was working with sheet metal and sliced his hand wide open.

That was just plain nasty.
BTW, whoever it was, I hope your hand is back to normal by now.
 
near miss

i was in tony's shop and he was trimming off some points that he glued up on a forearm on his bandsaw and next thing i heard was restrained profanity.

that's when i knew it was not good because usually tony doesn't restrain his profanity.

the forearm jumped because of dull blade on band saw and sliced his knuckle. probably 2mm away from hitting bone. luckily it just sheared his skin.

everytime i work on any machine, first thing i think about is my fingers. being a surgeon, i gotta protect my hands. i get nauseous just thinking what i would do if i lost a finger.

last i heard, his finger's ok. i prescribed him some antibiotics, but this was definitely a near miss.
 
Put my thumb into a wing cutter. That was boneheaded and I still can't explain why I had it anywhere near the cutter. Could have been worse than the scar I have.

I have always worked in dangerous environments.

1. ALWAYS wear eye, ear, and respiratory protection. A 200.00 face shield with filters is cheap compared to an injury.

2. NO loose clothing. They can quickly get caught in machinery.

3. Be aware of where YOU and potential dangers are at all times.

4. You can never be TOO SAFE....really...

5. Never have a beer and then think it is a good idea to do a bit of work. This should speak for itself, but if you work at home it can be tempting...
 
My worst injuries have been busted knuckles from working too close to the lathe chuck. My "paying" job is in manufacturing and I've seen injuries that will make your skin crawl so I've learned to have alot of respect for the tools we use. There's no short cuts when it comes to safety. Table saws give me the heebie jeebies, I don't even like being in the same room with it when my taper machine is running.
 
Were guys right ,we love big tits and a nice ass right , but that's not what we think about when the blade is running . Think Think Think use your fing brain this is the time to think . I'm a pro and only had a couple of injures in the past 30 years. one I was brushing off the sawdust on the bandsaw wail it was running and nipped my finger . Bad Bad Bad , think Think Think always . I always say in my head grab your balls and do it but with feel and a clear head .D Hill
