Let's talk LD shafts

Everywhere I look I see a company pushing there LD shaft.
I have played with the McDermott i2, i3 and g core shafts. I really liked the I3. My current player is a G core that I had the taper modified on. It plays well. However it is not as consistent as the I3 I played with. I have a small mark near the tip that I always keep up so that it always hits the same. This helps alot.
I noticed that when I played with the I3 and i2 they had a very consistent hit.
So my question is what have you played with, Lucasi, OB, McDermott what? What was your opinion of it? What is your shaft of choice?

I've had predator, mcdermott, viking, players, lambros, mezz, I always go back too my ob. But I will say I love the BD ss360 just as much and soon I'm going too order a custom from him but ever since I've got a ob my game has come up a lil I know its not the cue but it does help a tad u really can't go wrong with any of the shafts out there its really what fits u best

Shot with OB, Pred, Mezz and a couple of others.

OB IMO stay away from the wooden ferrule, the classic and classic pro apparently hit well, I havent hit with the plus line but I think that it is a step in the right direction. Lamination just takes so much feel away and adds a spongy feedback.

Preds Z2 S tuned hits solid so does the 314 2 but Playing them on a 3/8 10 cue just feels way too soft.
so I would play them on a firmer joint.

Mezz WD700, WX900 and HP2 all hit realllllllyyyyy well IMO. I have a WX900 currently with a sniper tip and it hits like a dream. In terms of LD the WX900 is comparable to the Z2 and OB 2 and Pro lines. The HP2 seems to have the same or just a little less deflection than the 314 2.

I think the biggest advantage to LD shafts is consistency. If you need a new shaft you know what it will be like off the shelf. I have a few cues with different joints and all have an OB Classic. There is still nothing better than a good standard maple shaft for me, but I only have 2 old favorites.I play my best with them and love the feel. The OB Classics feel all about the same, and aim the same. I've tried Pred, Tiger, Players, etc.

I tried all of them and the only shaft I recommend is the McDermott i3 shaft.

No need to look any further.

Truth be told I like maple shafts, but here's why I use an OB. first I like a 12mm and under shaft, my favorite maple was a RAT cue with a thin shaft made for it, but I like the shaft bare wood and clean, which means I use sandpaper, 1500 or 2000 is what I like and eventually I wear the shaft down a bit, the wood changes and the consistency goes out the window, and a thinner shaft tends to warp sometimes. just the way ive done it and its how I like it. I'm sure most here would cry over sanding their $2000 cue's shafts, I don't care, you do you, I do me. LD shafts have a consistency with their build, they play well and you can always predict their play when using a new one. low deflection is really not that big a deal, because you still have to adjust when using english, and if you can do it with an LD, you can do it with maple. Maple shafts will get you more action on a ball, the solid wood just reacts better when hitting a cue ball, so if you play with a 12.75 or higher shaft, I recommend a maple shaft. just my experience so far with LD shafts, basically, the 11.75mm and conical taper agrees with me, so I use an LD, and companies push their LDs bc its all the rage and they can make a profit, which in pool is a win in itself.

Cue shafts are consistent all the time, stroke and aim and speed is the issue.

The lowest LD shafts in wood I have seen are actually Ash snooker cues.
The Maple ones are not as LD from what I have seen.

Its funny you say ashwood cause when i played in BC John Horsefall was
going to the Reno open. He wasn't really known at all then until he walked
through the event and won it.
Players asked him what the hell he was playing with. He was playing with
his ash snooker cue but had a ash 9ball shaft made for it with a brass ferrule
to boot.Man o man did he play strong.

Everything in pool is so personal its damn impossible to give recommendations because what I might love you could hate. With that being said, I have shot with a lot of deflections shafts and I ended up getting my Pechauer LD shaft because it didn't feel hollow and has a great stiff hit with great deflections properties. You can't really go wrong with whatever you buy. I will say I have heard that the Meucci black dot shafts are very inconsistent because they laminate their wood all one direction. You can see what I am talking about here http://www.meuccicues.com/shafts.html. As long as you keep the black dot up on the shaft I don't think you would have a problem with one.

I`ve tried most LD shafts on the market, apart from the SS360/2 shafts and to me none of the laminated shafts feels good, so I have gone with the solid maple LD shaft i like the most, the Mezz WX900. High quality maple, very good LD characteristics and the 12mm tip diameter is just right to me.
My second choice is Mezz Hybrid Alpha or Hybrid Pro II.
The McDermott i2/3 is also nice.
The new OB+ shafts is also solid maple and looks very promising, I might buy a OB Pro+ when they become available for Mezz United Joint.

Now they're going to solid maple, so give the OB's another try.
