Light height.

OK so I have seen a few so called proper hieghts that the light should be off the table.

I have read 40" and also 36" also been told 6 foot off the floor.

Right now my light is 41" from the table to the bottom of the shade.

If it's 40" I am guessing 40" from the table to the bottom of the shade? or what?

I read all the different opinions and my recommendation is to put it where you like it and don't worry about it. :groucho:

Do a google search . . .

But most installers will tell you 63 - 65" from the bottom of the light to the floor . . .

Mine is set up at 42" from the bulb to the table surface. I have a 4 fixture bar light over a 9' table with 150 watt bulbs in the ends and 100 watt bulbs in the middle.

I'd say your light is set up perfectly as it is now. You can adjust it later if you have to.

Just measured mine.

Just measured mine. 4 1/2' x 9' GC II, (2) 4 x 4' fixtures end to end, 47" off the slate. Works fine for me.

No shadows.

I agree with Jim, just put it where you like and don't worry about it. If you want to get technical though, here's what the WPA says:

15. Lights
...If the light fixture above the table may be moved aside (referee), the minimum height of the fixture should be no lower than 40 inches [1.016 m] above the bed of the table. If the light fixture above the table is non-movable, the fixture should be no lower than 65 inches [1.65 m] above the bed of the table....

All I can say for sure is I never had a problem with lights being too high, but too low is a real pisser. So if you're thinking of lowering them, I'd say forget it. In fact 47" off the slate sounds pretty good.

Height

Mine is 30 inches to glass edge and 31 too the bottom of the 200 watt's bulbs.

Mine, the one in the photo, is 38.5" above the slate to the bottom of the light box.

When realkingcobra was here he thought it was a little low but I haven't raised it... too dammed heavy for me to attempt without a couple guys helping me. Too much at risk for me to try it and it's fine where it is.

I'm only 5'10" and I fit under it just fine but guys over 6' will occasionally bump it... and that smarts. Actually, as much as I hate to admit it, the height is a move on my part. :groucho:

It depends on the brightness and the size of the light(area illuminated).

The higher you hang the light the more room you will have to get your head under the light or use a jump cue and such.

If you can experiment with the light while the room is dark you will be able to see how high it needs to be to illuminate the playing surface by raising and lowering it.

The last lights I set in a pool-room ended up being at 38" but with a better light I would have gone a bit higher.

Thanks.. I lowered it with 4 links I wanted to take less light off the walls in the room.. I lowered it enough to NOT hit a cue on it and also still have enough light on the table.
