Light
You need a retractable light.
Light down and play pool.
Light is up and watch TV.
Or get rid of the TV..

LED lighting
Led lighting might be the best but I think LED lighting is a little to bright and needs to be DE fused or softened .
Once any light is defused or softened or reflected the light becomes reflective as in electromagnet polarized waves.
Once the polarized waves strike all smooth non metallic objects it creates polarized reflection ( AKA GLARE )
But if you put linear polarized film over your lights it will filter out the glare and soften the light .

Do all 6 tiles above the table, those bulbs last forever and the fixtures are cheap
I like this suggestion the best.
A pool hall needs drop lighting so one table won't affect the other...
...you don't have this problem.
And you have a great table....should be good till apocalypse 2093.

Okay the problem is twofold the bright overhead non-directional light!
this causes tv to be hard to see due to ambient light spread !
best to move tv and put in a proper diamond light at right height
or if cannot install 4 led daylight hi hat recessed lights on dimmers in drop ceiling spaced over table!
they are cheap to run and buy use 11watts with a 65 watt output rating ,
Home Depot here for less than $20. plus new work light rough in can $5.00
cool to touch, easy to install, if needed, you could add 2 more easy?
nice thing they shine light down so very little reflection on tv for viewing !
another hint there are available recessed led light trims that fit in a 4" standard octagon electrical box for low height restrictions in ceilings!
love the daylight easy on eyes!
fyi led panels in ceiling will not be best, as there will still be light spill reflecting on tv, these lights are not downlights but area lights ,same as any overhead non directional fluorescent lights!

Your advice assumes that the OP will be watching TV with the pool light on. If you assume that the pool light will be on when playing pool and off when the TV on, what would you recommend?
I ask because the pool room in my new place will also likely have a TV that would be obtructed by a hanging light.

Yeah what you have looks perfect. Just get two more fixtures and hang them up the same way as the first. if you get too much light in your eyes you could just pin up some simple dividers onto the drop ceiling

I agree with the LED in the drop ceiling panel (what they are designed for). The 2x4 size is like $150 shipped all over ebay now.

full motion tv bracket might be all ya need?
1st choice diamond or similar light box 42" above table with daylight tubes then
move tv and install with tv bracket that expands,swivels and angles out .
If you are going to keep tv where at led hi hats .
like I said install daylight led down lights, and put on dimmers for ambient room mood lighting.
lights will be in ceiling so you can watch tv whether on or off!
problem with fluorescent or led 2x4 are mainly light spill and looks like a office building!

I really like the look of the flat panel. Could this be installed in the ceiling or hung high enough to avoid shadows?
Those panels are made explicitly for drop ceiling installations

2x4 lights remind me of closing hours when they flash the bright overhead lights to tell ya its time to go home!
LED 2x4 are too modern look for your traditional GC1 ,paneled room in my opinion ?
Just hang a nice traditional pool light over table with daylight led bulbs, might better suit your taste?
