I do not need to sell this so I won't be considering any low ball offers, but the cue has such little play it still has the original tips Gus put on it about a year before he passed away. I wouldn't consider selling it but it's kind of a shame for such a fine cue to stay locked up in my safe and never receive any play time. I tried to buy this cue for about 20 years before the original owner finally caved in and sold it to me. I paid top dollar for the cue and do not plan to take a loss on it. I'm a cuemaker myself and Gus was one of my mentors when I first got into the craft. I used to have a collection of 12 Gus Szamboti cues which I had to sell in 1988 due to hard times. I wanted this cue because it was made in a batch of cue with the only cue Gus actually made for me. I also just wanted to have one of his cues in my private collection. I haven't used the cue more than a few games for a couple of reasons. One being that it still had the original tips on it and I didn't want to put any wear & tear on the cue and being a cuemaker myself, it just didn't project the right image for me to be playing with anything other than one of my Sherm Cues. This cue in 59 1/2" overall, butt 30", shafts 29 1/2", and weighs 20 3/4oz. Butt 16.5oz, shafts 4.25oz. Barry tells me that these are the exact specs his dad (Gus) played with. There are a couple of small nicks in the butt sleeve that I focused on in the pictures. You have to look very closely to even see them. Otherwise it's pristine!
I will let the cue alone go for $8500 or include the "It's George" leather case that Gus shipped it out in for $9000. I'm not interested in any trades except possibly a Kersenbrock or Southwest as a partial trade. I'm pretty firm on my price, like I said I don't need to sell it!
I also have a close friend who has 3 of Gus' cues which are available. One is a 4 point, window cue that was made for Gary Spaeth. One is a very rare (1 of only 6) Wico pointed cues and the 3rd is a one of a kind ebony Merry Widow cue with white phenolic ringwork that has a very interesting provenance.
I'm only posting pictures of my cue but can email pics of the other 3 cues to any interested parties. I can also give you the phone number of the owner of the cues for you to discuss pricing. I won't get involved in that, it's between you and him but he knows how special all 3 of these cues are and they won't go cheap. Low ballers and tire kickers shouldn't waste their time. Serious buyers only.
I'll be going to the Derby City Classic and can hand deliver the cues there if that works for the buyer.
