Linear rail stroke trainer clip

Looks like a great product for training a good stroke. No need for it to work with side spin. It looks to me like it’s just a muscle memory trainer.

This stroke trainer is made from a CNC linear rail, which has become a commodity on eBay for about $50.

I believe this is the type of setup @Bob Jewett would call coupled, and would not work for spin shots.
I think you can make it with the front free to move to the side, so side spin (added squirt) should not be a problem.

As shown, it seems to teach a piston (not pendulum) stroke.

I think there are simpler fixtures that do a similar job.

Of course, the best mechanical stroke trainer would allow you to use your normal cue and would force it to not move in the y-direction while giving it full freedom to move in the x and z-directions (x being forward and z up) with no (or very little) friction. I don't know of anything that even comes close to this ideal.

Two vertical parallel metal plates an inch and a half apart with a nylon ring on the cue stick somewhere between the joint and the wrap. The ring fits snugly on the cue and barely fits between the metal plates. Something like this has already been developed.

A major problem with this kind of contraption is that if you want to actually shoot shots it takes a long time to reposition it. The positioning needs an accuracy of better than a millimeter for some shots if you are shooting shots.

Thank you for your reply. Do you have any other info on this? Links?
I think it was called The Stroke Trainer. I just put that into Google and got a whole bunch of hits, including this on AZB

but I can't find exactly what I remember. I think one iteration had the plates spaced by the width of the grip hand.

A poor-man's version is to stand against a wall and let the wall guide your hand.

Or stand a couple of golf tees an inch apart. ...
I've done something similar but I spent too much time putting the guides back in place and gave up. I think you want something firm enough that you can feel the feedback during the stroke.

A high-tech solution would be to have a target on the bumper and mount a smarty-phone camera behind you and have it squawk when you go offline.

My Shooting Machine, for comparing shafts, is a two-parallel rail Linear setup. It will allow 24 inches forward & aft movement & it has a Lazy-Susan rotational setup for Back Hand English, if you prefer... The rotation point can be shifted forward Or backward, to fit the individual Player

The Stroke Trainer was a Masterpiece. I'd buy one instantly, if I could find one.

Nic Barrow was promoting a stroke trainer many years ago, but I don't know how comparable it would be.

Can you post a picture of your machine? Sounds interesting.

It’s a really good presentation. The girl has that signature Asian style and good looks. In my opinion it’s still a good trainer for the piston stroke, or a soft pendulum stroke where the backswing is just a few degrees.

Edit: it just wouldn’t work on many of the popular tables here in the U.S. due to the rail blind interference with the C-clamp. I suppose on my Anniversary it would be doable with a conventional C-clamp if I remove one of my rail blinds, but I’m not too thrilled about doing that. Blinds are kind of a pain to remove and reinstall.

I can sell a better version.

The paper lights up using the LEDs.

Weight sensors show if you are balanced or favoring.

Proximity sensors indicate if you stay down after the shot.

It also comes with a portable selfie pole for mounting your phone for pics. The powered USB clamp is extra but the unpowered one is free.

And the paper can be driven remotely using an app. Think two motors and wifi.
