linen base melamine ferrules??????????????

i've got one particular cue, that i have completed
ferrule was flush and smooth with shaft
two days later i noticed a little ridge
like the ferrule swelled????
sanded back smooth again
a couple days later, same thing, a ridge there again
what heck is it??????
if keep doing this, i'll have a pencil ​

Never heard or seen melamine do this ..........the wood may be shrinking.
If you know it's the ferrule........whack it and reapply.

Absolutely, air conditioning takes moisture out of the air. Summertime in Cinti. is always very humid.

AC dries up the air in the room thus affecting the MC of the wood... based on what you said, the wood is shrinking leaving the ferrule at it's original size. I've never experienced that from LBM.

I have been using lbm for years and have never had a problem with the ferrule expanding like that. Sounds like your shaftwood moving around. Chris.

must be, sounds more logical.
i guess, the ac in house makes a difference.
guess i'll bring the rest of my shafts onto the house.

Run a dehumidifier in the shop.........just the opposite for me.......I have to run a humidifier year round to keep at 45-50%.

One quick way to figuire it out would be to put a dial caliper on the shaft and then on the ferrule, mark them down and then re-measure a few days later, that would tell you who's doing what.

When you burnish the ferrule how hot do you get it? Do you seal it with polish/wax afterwards? I saw this once. If you heat the lbm too much it will actually shrink when it cools. Sand slow then polish with a chemical to seal. Works for me..
