I'm sorry, I don't know anything about the leather on Schon's, but I do play with a leather wrapped cue, and like it very much.
Going from linen to leather was very easy and fast. I was able to choose my wrap from a pile that ranged from a cheaper plasticky feeling one all the way up to very expensive, super soft elephant ear. I chose an moderate embossed one for the tactile feel, and especially for that particular color.
The cuemaker did warn that most people who get leather go right back to linen, usually within the first six months. He didn't know why. After almost two years of playing with mine, I don't know why, either... But I like leather so much that when I later ordered a custom, I automatically asked for leather again.
I do suggest hitting with someone else's first, if you can.
At risk of yet another hijack attempt, I would be curious to hear what people think of cork...
