Linking Pro Pool and Amateur Pool

How important for the future of pool to have a linked system?

That would really help our sport out,if the people see pro's helping beginners and the public saw true results,I think people would become more involved in pool.Especially now during the winter months.

Handicaps?

I started the Canadadian 10K, 20K and 30K 9 ball tour
One reason it was real good it was because the pros will mix with the amateurs in play games that otherwise will never happen and the amateur with the handicap had a chance to the money
The number of entries were high and the pool stablishments had a full room
Must every one was happy, calcuttas were hight and the amateurs looked pleased to compite against such notables as Morra, Pagulayan, Horleifson, Cardinal, Orme, Klatt......etc
To the players that made the sunday it was payday (two days event)
Now whats wrong with this picture?.....Pros do not like the handicap system, but with out you have a hand full of players as opposed to a full field
Just my two cents

How important is it to have the two connected?

i feel pool is not going anywhere as of now. We saw fire in pros eyes during the IPT crap and many hearts broken afterwards. In theory it was a pretty good idea because we thought KT has some sincerity in his words. I t died as quickly as it was born.
Pool obviously isn't going to grow with few within the industry willing to pony up and in a huge way. Some have tried and done pretty well and I am grateful and respect their efforts.
Pool and young pool players need something to aim for. There has to be some light at the end of the tunnel. What would Basketball be without the NBA, or football without the NFL, or basebal l without MLB? This all comes to be because of TV. Without TV, pool is right where it is going to stay. ESPN will televise almost anyting, but network TV is going to stay with smart business and sell it to the American public.
This is like beating the dead horse but I feel that without TV, we are just going to barely get by and other countries are going to leave us behind.

I think pro pool needs amateur pool, but amateur pool doesn't need pro pool...

they are both too different...

Mark Griffin has the model, I believe.

There is no such thing as pro pool in the US; however, amateur pool is running rampant. If there is to be a sustainable and "real" pro tour, it must be funded internally and amateur pool is likely the mechanism to do just that.
