List of Missouri State 9 Ball Champions

Danny played in the 80's when it was held in Columbia.

Maybe twice at most and was barred long before he was any type of a pro.

Jon Wilson couldn't play one year cause he forgot his drivers license. Jon used to work for Phil and Phil knew who he was.

Last time I went I was with Joe Woolford who Phil made it pretty clear he didn't care for. After the initial round robin, the board reflected Joe was knocked out of the tourney. We were walking out the door, heading home when another player pointed out that one of Joe's wins got marked as a loss and the score reversed. Phil didn't want to believe it and it took 15 minutes to make him finally confirm it. Joe went on to win the tourney. Karma.

This is an old thread, I was the closer for Phil Spudich's pool room in Columbia for a couple years. Played in a regular ring game with Terry Hile the '93 winner and Martin Shultie(?) who was from St. Louis and people once claimed he came in 2nd place so he could continue playing in the tournament. A couple of the amazing finishes, were Martin getting in the top 3-4 while he had pretty much quit playing pool and was going to school at Mizzou in Columbia, and Aaron Stoker who live near Columbia, but won it in Springfield. I say it's amazing, because Aaron doesn't 'play pool'...lol. He quit to keep his family life sound and it was a good choice. He just practices at home and is rarely seen in a pool room. Once a year he goes down and plays in the state tournament. I haven't heard if it will continue since Springfield Billiards has been closed. Here's a shot I took of Tom Ferry collecting a check and trophy from Phil Spudich.

And one of him Playing. I picked them up off of One Pocket .org (They are my photos, I'm Whit Elfner)

Here's a bit of a writeup of Tom Ferry and 2005 Missouri championship at onepocket.org (I think they allow links here, if not the admin can simply remove the link;

Phil was one of the first people I met when I moved to CoMO because he set up my table for me. Flew helicopters in Vietnam. Now they are both in the pool hall in the sky.
