Been playing kind of funky since my back was diagnosed with a disc problem at L5S1. Not sure if it is me changing my stance and not being comfortable or not practicing much and not being comfortable but it is something. I was missing straight in shots last night but eventually, when I realized that my opponent was done feeling sorry for me, I had an opportunity to put a little something together. Followed a little too hard on the 14 and lost the pattern for the break shot. Needed to slow down and think. The pattern looked interesting but I let up for just a second and overshot the mark.

Thanks for posting. I just watched it and I have a question about your shot choice once but I now forgot on which shot it was. I will review this weekend and ask then.

dennis:

you have good shot-making skills.... you got into trouble a few times but got back in-line. here's what i noticed:

right off the bat at 26 secs, you over-hit that blue ball in the far corner and the cue goes way past center table and on the rail. i'm sure you lamented that one but you got out of it with a good shot in the side.... but that error forced you to go into some loose balls putting two balls on the rail at the end of the rack which added difficulty. you pulled out of it though and did a nice two-rail follow-shot for a break-ball. you had a tough angle on the b-ball but you made a super shot opening rack #2.

with the rack open 3:40 your first shot gave you a great opportunity to get excellent position on that 3ball on the rail and use that corner ball to get back into the rack.

at 4:21 i thought that you were a tad reckless going into those balls from underneath. i felt that you should have tried to get back on top because there were plenty of shots waiting. but at least now, that red ball on the rail leads to a good key ball if you decide to go that route. lots of possibilities for break balls

a the end you got out of line and had a tough shot on the 6ball. you could have gotten a b-ball though but you over-hit your key and came off the rail too far.

generally however, your shooting and shot selection is good. if you concentrate a little more on position especially on those critical shots, you will keep your opponents chaired much longer. oh, and just because you have an open rack doesn't mean that you should not be trying to get precise position.

Nice little run Dennis.

You shot that 4 ball in the upper left corner and you came around two rails too long. A little softer and the cue ball would of set up for either two balls ( 3 & the 8 ball) that would of went in the lower left corner But...... not all shots are perfect, remember that.
As Ray Martin stated; when you get out of line, re-think another pattern and start over. That is what you did. Which turned out good.
You set yourself up nicely by shooting the 2 ball in the side and positioned the cue ball between the 1 ball & 14 ball which were on the rail. Playing the 14 first and then shooting the 1 ball in the corner.
I would of try-ed to keep the cue ball lower and off the rail to use a draw shot on that key ball and to float over onto to the break ball but you got a little high and had to go to the two bottom rails to come up with position on the break.
Which way is correct??? Either way, it doesn't matter, the job was done.
The next rack you played perfect, up to the 14 in the side pocket. I knew just what you were going to shoot. The last 4 balls got you. When you shot the 14 in the side, you got a little too high on the 1 ball in the other side. You try-ed to make the other balls stop your cue ball but missed doing it and the cue rolled to the bottom rail. You then made a nice recovery shot on the 6 ball in the corner and almost got on that key ball.
Over all very good playing. You are thinking properly. All good things will come within time. Keep on hanging in there. Hope that you start to feel better. I know about back & nerve damage problems.

Dennis;

The problem is obvious. You have upset your Karma by allowing an unbalanced number of chalk cubes to accumulate. Chalks are like A womans breasts or martinis. One is not enough and three are too many.

LOL! good observation, dave. when i play, i leave one chalk and ONLY one chalk on the table. i hate having to move chalk before each shot....

You are exactly right about the cue ball going too far and leaving me only that cut in the side.

I did think the cue ball would be lower on that rail shot so that I would have used either a little draw or bounce over to the long rail.

I got a little sloppy as you noticed and got too high on the 1 ball. I should have thought to err on the short side as I would still have been ok. The last two shots again cue ball too long. Close but no cigar.

You are absolutely correct. My cue ball control leaves much to be desired.

with the rack open 3:40 your first shot gave you a great opportunity to get excellent position on that 3ball on the rail and use that corner ball to get back into the rack.

I thought of it but I had been missing so many easy shots and I would be bridging close to a few balls and then leaving myself a little longer. If I were a bit straighter on it I probably would have taken it then.

They seemed pretty open but there was a 7 9 together and I thought I could mix them up a little and shoot the 8. I did not hit them where I thought I would and ended up shooting the 2. The ball on the rail then led to the 8 and to the 5.

Then it looked like a relatively easy 10,14,1,6,7,9 but I hit the 14 a little too hard.

After the 1 I needed to stop dead on the 6, but I drifted forward about one balls width. the last ditch effort neede again to be softer. Had to put a lot of reverse on it and overhit it.

Thanks for taking the time to look.

dennis: the 2ball is a blocker, complicating the goal of separating the 7/9. with 11 balls on the table, other opportunities would have arisen. you worked it out but from my vantage point, a lot could go wrong with that approach including creating even more clusters. when i have a rack open like this with lots of shots, i concentrate on clearing pockets then getting back on top of the balls. once back to center table, gently nudging the 7/9 would have been pretty easy. i felt like you flagrantly violated a Fels, "WP" rule. what say you, george?
