I like the form, I just think that a live chat would be better.

Yeah, pizzing contest on real time. lol
Bandido and I chat all the time at PPP.
He gives me a ton of advice on cuemaking while I'm still apprenticing with another master cuemaker.
You can never know too much in anything.

Now that we have the bandwidth, this is something I would like to start looking in to. Anyone else interested?

Mike

It would be cool I think, have private rooms and such. Evereyone may be talking over each other is the only concern

I think it would be cool if people would actually use the feature. But based on my experiences at other forms (not all billiards related) is that MOST the people don't. The problem is that if everyone else don't use them, then they start to become useless to the majority.

It might be worthwhile to take a poll to see the % of people that would actually use it before putting forth all the hardwork and extra bandwidth. By the way, I noticed the forums are 10x faster now...glad to see that. I was getting bummed coming here and waiting and waiting and waiting for stuff to load. I know...it all costs $$ and I'm using a FREE service so I'll shut up the whine. Just this is a GREAT forum and I like to visit often.

I'm not against it Mike but it would cut down on the posts. And, you have gotten this site to Light Speed now. It's almost like live chat.

I would be interested in the Chat portion. I agree, might cut back on the posts.

Mike, you could look at the amount of PM's everyone normally sends. I believe that 80% of PM's might get handled in a chatroom fashion.

The positives to a chat room:

Fast questions, answers, thoughts, simple questions, not forever saved in memory.

The negatives might be:
Trash talking (ignore buttons), swearing (ignore button), less posting on forum, quality information that appears then disappears, not being able to chat at work :)

Depending on time/effort needed to make a chat forum, I think it would be a cool thing. Can talk about things with different personalities when ya think of it without having to create a whole post.

Well if the voting starts up you can add me to "yes" for a live chat!

I would think the moderating duties would be more intense, but that's just my guess. Seems to me there are a few people that post a lot, me being one of them, but there are a lot of people that just read and never post. Just a couple of things to think about. Given that, if you're willing to put forth the effort, Mike, I'd certainly be interested tool Thank you for entertaining this idea!

rick,,,chats should be unmoderated. it is,,,,well,,,somewhat like a phone conversation amongst adults.

there wouldn't be less forum posting. there might be more, in fact.

there would be more chat carryover to the forum.

chat would add to the community, more informal, and less guarded. one could correct a missinterpretation immediately, and arguements could get settled faster.

I think its a great idea and I believe you would get more people to participate. Look at nascar.com site they have a great chat room and have Drivers in for special chats. You could do the same here with Players,Cue Makers, Instructors and Manufactures. What a thought, Hope you decide on doing it.Thanks

live chat

I would love to see that, maybe you could even set up 2 or three pro's , cuemakers, instructors etc. to discuss differences they have in how they do their particular specialty. Anyway the live chat sound great, hope it happens. B

Bruin,

Aren't most chat rooms on the net moderated by someone? I thought they were. Heck, if they're going to moderate a forum, you'd certainly think they'd want to moderate a chat room. Personally speaking, I could care less. I am an adult and words don't bother me. I know I can just turn my computer off if I don't like what I'm reading.

For instance..at this moment, it shows 14 users browsing the forum..it would be nice to random chat with some of them.

Another reason it might work. I am gonna see if anyone gets on the PPP chat at 3 for the Derby's broadcast of the ring game.

i moderate at an art forum of 30,000+ members. there is no "moderated" chat,,,, in a sense that one can pretty much chat as one pleases. but in a similiar vein. one doesn't go around in public shouting obsenities or ranking his co-workers without some sort of reprisal.

though i moderate, the best form of moderating is the self imposed kind.

Who do you think would type faster? I got my money on FL. He's got to type pretty fast as long as his posts can get.
