So lock down finally cleared this friday in my area. Have not hit a ball in months. I picked up a new tasc during covid and took it out for a spin this weekend. Played about 15-20h. Thursday through sunday.

I love the new cue, and i got weight and speed down, but the rattles were non stop. Missing shots all over. I missed more bih than i remember. Barely string 3-4 balls on a good run in 8b.

I knew i would be rusty, but this was a whole other level of bad. So bad i couldn't help but laugh. I am going to have start with basic drills i think and forgo games until i get used to the cue and back in stroke after hiatus.

Just needed to vent a little. I will keep at it.

Also, your immune system isn't up to speed either, as it, too, requires constant challenges to stay strong.

Don't stay too long in one environment until it gets back up like it is supposed to work. I'm not a doctor but have had this crap.

Yeah, pool again...woo hoo...

I am guessing it is a combination of rusty aim and putting in a bit more power than needed. Try also going back to quick stroke drills during warm up before games as well. I find those really help get me in the groove. Of course there are still many days where I feel like the pocket is smaller than the ball.

It took me 6-8 hours of playing before my skills started returning and I was able to start running the table.

If I just practiced alone, that time would be cut in half. But instead I actually played matches and that really
extends the length of time to get your skills honed. One afternoon session of 3-4 hours duration would be
suffucient to get your game back if you used the right tools & practice routine & certainly not more than a day.

New cue, means new shaft. I'd guess that is as much of a factor as not playing.

Yup. I can usually move between cues fairly easily but every once in a while a different one throws me off.

This cue hits firm, with medium squirt. Similar to what i am use to. The difference is the cue has a different, yet great harmonic to it. Feed back is smooth like a tuning fork. Love the feel, just not use to it. It is also very bouncy. Cb tends to roll more than i expect.

Worst part a few other try the cue and take to it immediately. Rubbing salt in the wounds.

Combo of new cue and lack of playing. I will need solo time to get use to the cue and and back in stroke. Just one of those great to get out to play but disappointed it did not go quite the way expected.

Sounds like Pete's cues (pun intended). You can hear them across the room. I really like the way his cues play; I have a cue I ordered from them directly and I love it. But if you're coming off a hiatus after playing a with a LD shaft, it's gonna be a bit to get it dialed in. That was my experience anyway. But once I got that cue dialed in, I set my 14.1 high run record with it.

I had the same issue after I got back to playing following Covid. It was an awful affair. Being 69 it might have been even more difficult. So I went back to the basics and did basic skills drills that seemed silly but eventually it worked, Frustrating yes because before Covid I was playing very well so I guess I expected to just pick up where I left off. I also decided playing against anyone was not going to help so I just worked on my stroke and cue delivery. I also played a lot of 8 ball by myself teh switched to 9 ball alone. After a month of playing 3 times a week or so I am back in reasonable form and playing some other folks again. It was not easy, nor was it much fun but in the end I am happy where I am now. Sadly if the unvaccinated don't get their vaccines I may have to quit again. Pool aint worth dying for and unvaccinated folks are a menace to our freedom from this pandemic....

Who cares??? You're out and whacking rocks!!

We were talking about this at a tournament the other day.

Fargo ratings are going to be all over the place for awhile. Seems like you have 2 camps: Those that have had access to a table and have had nothing else to do and have been grinding and putting in a ton of time, who are going to be playing above their fargo now, and those that have not hit a ball for a year and a half, who are going to be playing below their rating. There's probably not many people in between.
