I stumbled on 409, works for me! But let's keep it a secret..
As it turns out, Raildriver, it should work for everyone that works with cues. Sorry to let the secret out pal.
I wrote to the LocTite corporation and they responded with good news. Loctite 409 is a
general purpose cyanoacrylate adhesive gel. It seems that the primary difference between LocTite 409 and the 454 formula is that the 409 takes about 60 seconds more to bond. To me, this does not present a problem unless I am at a tournament and need to keep moving at a fast pace. Not a problem in the shop though. Plenty of things to do while waiting.
The other difference is that the 454 bonds a greater amount of substances than does the 409. Well, again, this is not a problem for those that build or work on cues. Three of the substances that it bonds well is leather, plastics, & wood. Go figure! The bond is stronger on non-porus materials, but is sufficient for our purposes.
I am sitting with 26 of the 20-gm tubes. Those are the big tubes that sell for up to $27.00 per tube. The lowest price I've seen them go for is $18.00 plus S&H. Don't get these mixed up with the much smaller tubes. There is an expiration date of March 2007 so I know I will not use them all by then.
With that said, I will let go of up to 12 tubes at 12.00 each
shipped. If you can find them for less, please let me know and I will withdraw my offer.
Payment is by money order or Paypal only. PM me if you're interested. Thanks.
