Hey guys,

All of the tubes that I was selling in the other thread have been sold. However, I have some of the ones I didn't want to sell at regular discounted price because they were more dented than the others. Although they are dented, the are still very much usable so I am making them available here. Pricing is as follows.

Each tube will cost you just $4.00 each plus 4.50 shipping for as many tubes as you would like.

For example:
10 tubes will cost you $40.00 plus 4.50 equals a total of $44.50.

Purchase as few or as many as you like as long as supplies last. The problem with these tubes are that they have traces of CA on the outside or they are scratched and some of the writing is gone. Basically cosmetic issues. You will NOT receive any tubes that are leaking. All tubes are in tact but are not suitable for normal sale because of the packaging issues.

These tubes have been kept refrigerated and the contents is top shelf, just as you have become accustomed to with Loctite products. Should you have a problem with this CA, you can return it for a full refund (Minus shipping) within 30 days of purchase guaranteed. No risks here

There are 28 tubes left and once they are gone, they're gone. Thank you.

Quick question: if properly stored (refrigerated) and not opened, how long of a shelf life will this stuff have?

Depends on the fridge. :D
I wonder that myself.
The super glues at Home Depot I don't trust.
Who knows what they were exposed too.
NEVER again am buying there.

I was told by a 3m rep that super glue in the fridge is about 1 year I try to keep them in there no longer then 3 months. The fridge only slows down the chemical reaction going on in the tube.

Hope its useful.

There are sources that place the shelf-life at 2 years. I emailed the Henkel Corp. a few weeks ago and got no response but I have just checked, and I was able to find a telephone number that I will be calling today. I'll post my findings. Meanwhile, here is some additional information on the Loctite 454 product.

454™ Prism®
For use with porous surfaces, clear, gap fills 0.010”, surface insensitive Ethyl, gel type, tensile shear strength 3200 psi, temperature range–65°F to 180°F. Cure speed: fixture – 15 seconds, full - 24 hours

Thanks,

Gene

In a conversation with the Henkel Corp. (Loctite), the shelf life of their 454 product is officially 2 years. However, off the record, this very knowledgeable representative indicated to me that the company, to his knowledge, has not tested beyond the two year period. Although he did not directly say, his indications to me were that the company does not want to be able to clearly tell the consumer that the product will last longer than two years because that would not be in the best interest of future "new" sales.

Without committing directly, his personal experience with shelf life has been in the 5 year range. For obvious reasons, he was measuring his responses to me, while showing a desire to be as helpful as possible with more accurate information than the company is apparently willing to share.

Thanks guys for the excellent question. It was rewarding to finally get an response from Loctite and I learned a lot. Hopefully you did as well.

All PMs have been answered. Still some tubes left for sale.

I talked to a chemist at Loctite a number of years ago too as to what would be their best glue for tip installations. He thought that 454 would be the best and also said that storing unopened in the fridge really increased the shelf life. He also told me that once opened it should never be put back into the fridge as that would shorten it's life. I've found that, depending on shop conditions (temp. and humidity), an opened tube of 454 lasts one to two months before going bad. I install a lot of tips so a 20 gr. tube is usually used up but in the summer when business is slower I throw away opened tubes after about 1 month. Can't take chances of tips coming off as that will ruin your reputation more than anything else.

Dick, I have found that two of the best instant adhesives for tips is the Loctite 454, of course, and the Loctite 409 products. Although both are gels, the 409, among other things, gives you a bit more time to adjust placement if needed. I find that the 454 however, provides adequate time in most cases, to adjust.

Your point regarding not putting opened tubes back in the fridge, is a really good one. I feel comfortable going as much as two to three months with a tube during the slow times because the portion of the tube that is affected first, is the glue seated at the tip. If you squeeze that out and throw it away, you get to the fresher part, virtually untouched by air. I can't back this up with scientific studies. I'm simply going by experience.

I do a lot of complimentary finishes on shafts where customers have beat them to hell. I use the remainder of tubes for that most of the time so I don't waste a lot of CA.

Thanks for your input.
