There's so much to like about Joe. He looks more like a cage fighter or a drill sergeant than a comedian, he's very smart (just look up "pugnacious") and he goes straight for the funny bone.

The word "pugnacious" is not commonly used here anymore. I don't think most Americans would know it's exact meaning. We tend to use "combative" or "argumentative". Since your question inferred it was a common word, I thought you might be from the UK.
