does anyone know anyone who is an instructor that helps players over a long term(3-12 months)...and how much do they charge.
Pool is an acquired skill like playing a musical instrument. It can only be learned over time and the student can only absorb and so much. One or two lessons may be of value and correct a players problems or get them started in the right direction. It would take many lessons over a pretty long period of time to really bring the student along.does anyone know anyone who is an instructor that helps players over a long term(3-12 months)...and how much do they charge.
Most serious students do not expect to learn all they need to know in an hour or two.
So, yes, most instructors will be glad to help players over a long period of time. Jasmin Ouschan has been working with the same coach for years, as have many other fine players.
What they charge will vary from instructor to instructor. Most will give discounts for multiple lessons. Not long ago, I gave a friend about 35 hours of lessons over a year for $500.

Scott,
Speaking of travel, have you ever thought of coming out to Hawaii to give some lessons?
Let me know if you do, I would love to help supplement your vacation in exchange for some lessons. Who couldn't use some Island Time.
Aloha.
Donny...No offense, but that's not even a livable wage ($15/hr). I charge 5x that (with no complaints) and I'm nowhere near the highest price instructor out there. That said, I have travel costs to take care of.

I have had several people from both Hawaii and Alaska interested, and would love to work in both places (Hawaii is more desirable for obvious reasons). Might just happen one of these days!

The Billiards Academy here in Chico breaks it down into courses.
Pool School: 3 months
Advanced School: 7 months
"A" School: 12 months
...and so on.
I have only taken the first two in that list and haven't gotten past that yet.
The prices are on the site: http://chicobilliards.com/Academy/Academy/Courses
I don't have anything to compare it to since this is the only place I have ever taken pool lessons but compared to other sports/hobbies that I have taken lessons in (Golf, Tennis, Violin) its a pretty good bargain. I'm guessing prices vary heavily depending on the area and what people are willing to pay.
Seems like the supply/demand curve favors the students over the teachers in pool these days.
JC - First of all where are you based? i would find a good instructor in or near your area.
I do long term lessons for players and track their progress, and give reduced costs for players booking longer term lessons. I am sure most other instructors do this also.
