Longer cues...

Have any of you played with a longer cue. A good friend that owns a pool hall and is quite tall had a custom long sue made and he loved, He's used it now for about 8 years. I had one made by the same guy about 6 years ago and I also love mine. Mine is 63" long, no wrap, burl maple butt stained dark with two shafts. Some customers that saw a picture of my cue had a cue made just kike it. I seldom have to use a bridge. The only problem is that both of my shafts warped a little bit. Because of this I quit using the long cue and bought a McDermott cue with an I shaft. I like the new cue very much but I miss the added length. I feel an option on all cues should be added length, I know Earl Strickland uses a longer cue. Not sure who else but I'm sure other players do to. How do you feel about longer cues? Shoot well.

I've played with 60 inch cues (30 inch butt, 30 inch shafts)for 20 years. Works just fine for me. It really doesn't matter how I or anyone else feels about a cue. It's all about how the player in question feels about the cue.

You can buy yourself a Balance Rite extension for your cue, or have a cue maker make something similar for you.

Either way, you get a longer cue and still retain the playability and sturdiness of a standard length shaft.

I played with Earl's cue last year and loved the feeling of how balanced it was in my hands. I finally got around to having a local cue maker build me a 7 inch extension that can be left on at all times. Im looking forward to testing it out on my James White soon.

Earl's cue tops out around 70 inches and he has 3 different extensions IIRC.
SVB has been playing with his 58" cuetec with 6" extension on daily.
My new cue being made is 60" split 30/30 with a 6" screw in extension.

Any shaft longer than 30" with a "pro-taper" will become whippy. I've had shafts that are 29" with an 18-20" pro taper and it was as flimsy as a noodle. If you don't mind conical tapers, you can have a 40" shaft made and be fine.

I'll order soon a Balance rite extension and a weight kit for my cue, so I'll have a longer cue, and I'm almost sure that I like it.

I have a Balance Rite extension and the added length really helps for someone my size. I didn't adjust the weight on my cue when I installed it though. Either way, I really like it.
