Looking for a rack for a pool hall

hang-the-9

A place I play in got a bunch of really horrible racks, I am going to get some suggestions for the owner, not the metal Delta ones. Way too loud.

I don't like the Diamond ones much either, every one I used had the front ball stick to the rack too much and rolls off the rack 3 out of 4 times.

Anyone have a line on some good racks, under $50?

My friend discovered a rack at the SBE. It is called something like the Laser rack or something. It is a laminated wood rack that is cut with a laser. The triangle floats on 3 "feet" that touch the table. It is an *excellent* rack. Very very accurate, easy to use, and I believe they are under $20. Highly recommended. (Personally I think the Delta 13 is the best, and it is only loud if you make it loud, but these are very close in terms of accuracy)

LMK if you want more info.

I remember a wooden rack with three metal feet that was the nuts back in the 90's. When racked it left a huge space on the back end inside the rack but always made it tight. Wonder if the same thing?

Delta 13 makes these leather inserts that go in the cutouts that quiet them a lot from what I understand. They're an expensive rack, but they are so nice to use and they will outlast a wood rack but a good margin!

I like the Diamond racks when new, but when they get old they start to leave little splinters all over the felt and don't always rack very well.

I have to agree with you about Delta racks. It seems the only ones who complain about the 'noise' are the ones who read about it online. Here in NYC, it's standard equipment at poolhalls where serious league and tournament players congregate.

It seems to me that the Delta 13 rack would be the most appropriate for a pool hall anyhow. It has a lifetime warranty. If you get the inserts for it which can be custom with that Pool Hall name and logo on them the noise is greatly reduced. If the hall is carpeted it will not be damaged if it is dropped. It offers a great rack time after time.

If you don't want them or wooden racks then all I can think of is templates in your price range. Outsville has a great set and so does magic rack,

Seyberts heavy duty plastic one for $8....can't go wrong that in my opinion

Well, I know a girl who works down the street at the Subway shop who might go with you, but......Oh! You meant the other kind of rack.
My bad. Carry on.

I like the delta but you have 10 tables with people that rack by banging the balls back and forth in the rack, it will sound horrible. Templates are too easy to lose, steal and would confuse people. I may check with the owner how much he would soend, maybe he would be OK with spending 600 on delta racks with inserts.

There is a laser rack that has positioning lights but it looks to be a dead product, has a video, a patent, web site does not exist and no one sells it.

Has anyone thought about using what's there, and making your opponent using the same rack? Sorta like playing on a particular table & making him shoot on the same table !!! LOL

I have my own Delta rack. I put leather inserts in it and it's no louder than any wood rack. BY the way....I've moved to central CT. No more "Cafe" for me I'm afraid. Keep Alex in the game..He'll be a contender before too long. Mitch

I had an idea of trying to put together a 1x bulk purchase of Delta Elite racks.
So I started a thread that basically went no where.....lack of interest.

It just seemed to me that if you made a bulk purchase of a couple of dozen
racks from Seyberts, Pool Dawg, Wisconsin Billiard Supply, etc., it would
warrant a discount. The racks would be shipped directly to all the buyers
since postage would not be included in the purchase price.

The best price I've seen is $140 for the Elite and $35 for leather inserts plus
tax and shipping. Someone aptly pointed out on my thread that it makes no
sense that I'll spend thousands of dollars for one of my cues and I am trying
to work a deal to save a couple bucks on a pool rack.

Here's the thing......I value cues but I do not value pool racks. I can easily spot
a better made product , like pool racks and so naturally I can appreciate that it
has desire and appeal versus the beat up racks at the pool hall. If I still had my
home table, then I'd already own one..But $200 for a friggin' rack to replace the
beat up ones at the pool hall is absurd. I love my Prewitt cue but I wouldn't pay
$8k for it, Why? Because it would be way over-priced.....I feel the same about
buying a $200 rack to use at my local pool hall......extravagant and overpriced.

Muellers Rack

I have this one. I've used it for 9 years or so without any visible wear. Plenty of wood to enable a repair if it breaks. Little thick for straight pool, so I had a more conventional one for that.

I also used to fix Brunswick racks for a room near my old home in NJ. I used wipe-on polyurethane to seal any exposed wood to eliminate splinters. I cleaned them first to remove the residue build-up inside. Waxed them after paint was dry. The factory glued joints failed often (6 joints each rack). I cleaned the pieces up with a triangular file, used two part epoxy and clamped it with a window frame type strap clamp. I removed one of the metal brackets of course. The metal brackets hold the strap off the wood so the epoxy doesn't get on it. If anyone needs more info on this technique, please PM me. Every joint I repaired did not fail again, 3 years until room closed. Saved that owner a ton of money, because he kept buying Brunswick's new ones at first.

Off the top of my head I know at least two 20+ table poolhalls in NYC that use Delta-13 as standard equipment. One have been using it for the last 5-6 years. From the poolhall owner, tournament grade balls, delta-13, and regular cloth replacement are necessary to retain league/tournament clientele.

Nope, the new racks he got are too bad for any real player to want to use. But you do have a point that both players use the same equipment, but it's more like having to race Yugos when you have Mustang Shelby's one lane over.

The owner is not very cheap, he re-did all tables with new rails and Simonis not too long ago, as well as purchasing a new 7' Diamond table just for league players to practice on for the national events.

The racks leave 3-4-5 gaps between the balls, total trash.

I would get the Delta racks, and I am almost certain he would not complain much about the price, but with all of the casual players there banging balls back and forth in the racks, when the room is full I don't want that sound blamed on me LOL

I don't think I'd suggest to the owner to get the high end Delta's the $70 models should be plenty good, especially considering the wear they would get, it's not like I am getting one for me to use 10 hours a week. Unless you know that the high end models wear better?
