Looking for cue suggestions

I am just getting back to pool after about 19 years away from the game. I used to play with McDermotts, Meucci's and Adams.

I have been looking at cues for sale here for the past few months. There have been several cues I would have liked to buy, but can't seem to pull the trigger. I am currently playing with a basic McDermott G-core cue and like how it plays. It seems to have a fairly soft hit without feeling 'whippy'. My only issue with the cue is the butt seems too narrow. I have tried some of my friends custom cues (don't know the makes) and didn't like how some played- either too much flex, vibration etc. I live in a small town and don't have access to any place that sells a wide assortment of cues to test out.

I don't need anything fancy. I really like some of the plain janes that have nice ring work and contrasting woods.

Can anyone recommend a custom that would have a similar feel to what I am currently playing with?

Thanks

For just returning back to the game a good choice would be a lucasi. Get one under $200 and play with it a while until you are sure what you desire in a cue.

Another choice would be a custom sneaky pete or a plain jane.

You don't need to spend a lot of money to play good pool.

Fullsplice

PM me your cell number ad ill send you some pics of a very nice full splice.

Rose wood into strain grain maple with yellow orange teal and dark grey veneers, White 1" joint with black trim rings and a white butt plat. comes with a 13mm shaft with triangle tip. weighs 18.2 ounces if I remember right.

price would be 350 shipped.

You never listed a price range???

I am a BIG fan of Ted Harris Cues. They had several plain ones at the expo, that i would highly recommend. They are a little more than a sneaky, running 500 to 700 while sneakys run 350 to 700 depending on maker.

Orcollo gave the cues a BIG thumbs up in espn magazine and he is considered the best player in the world!!!

Happy shopping!

I took the advice of several PM's and took a road trip to Nielson's Billiards in Springfield, Il. It was an awesome experience. I met Joe and was helped by a wonderful woman named Tammy. I thought I was making a mistake bringing my Wife and 8 yr old son. They were extremely helpful and let me try several cues. I had been playing with an entry level McDermott G-Core, which played nice, but I didn't like the Linen Wrap ( which was a present from her). I went there with a Samsara Bar-Que in mind, but after playing with the McD, felt kind of wobbly. When I mentioned something I wasn't crazy about, she was able to find a cue that was closer to what I was looking for. She eventually had me try a Lucasi with an LD shaft. It felt really good. About that time, my Wife was looking around and said, "I like this one." It was way more than I planned to spend, but she insisted that I try it. She had to talk me into a Predator P3 Leopard with no wrap with a 314 shaft. The cue plays fantastic. Here I was, trying to be a little conservative, and she absolutely fell in love with an expensive cue, even after she heard the price. I also picked up a cheap players break cue, a new 3x5 case and some other accessories. In all, I spent a couple enjoyable hours in their store. I would recommend them to anyone. I would also recommend anyone bring my wide along on their shopping spree.

Thanks again for all of the advice and PM's. it was a big help and I am very satisfied quality my new cue.
