Looking for Cue

You will find a LOT of recommondations here - try searching for cue advice or so. Or even McDermott directly.

My go to recommendation usually is Cuetec with R360 (shaft is LD and pretty nice) - the CER or CEV series have beautiful wood.
Change your tip (Everest) after ~3months for something different (Ultraskins, G2, Onyx, whatever) and be happy.

If in USA take also Schmelke and McDermott into account.
Try to get a somewhat LD shaft, if possible.

Cheers,
M

I've actually had limited luck when looking for a McDernott in my price range on here, so that's why I posted a thread.

McDermott Star line cues are made in China, you should know that.

For 200$ Schmelke is a good option, or a entry level Joss.

If you look a bit, you can find a McDermott G series for the money you have.

One of my friends had a McD Star cue, sold it and bought a Joss cue.

Yes, I know they are made in China. I don't have really any issue with that.

I agree. Get a Schmelke sneaky. Prices range from $100 to around $250. BilliardWarehouse has a real nice one with cocobolo and a Hoppe ring for i think $170. Way better than a Star.

hi

I dont agree with Schmelke. Cues are good quality ones but they dont play as near as good as McDermott.
People mostly recommend it because its made in USA.

Get McDermott Star of ebay for around $80 and get your self OB shaft that sell for $165, that way you can have both, MCDermott cue and high performance shaft.

Also note that Star line of McDermott play as good as those made in USA, I tested few of them and did not see any disadvantage.

Have you owned one? I got one the way i wanted for 170bux. Plays EVERY bit as good as my 500DOLLAR Diveney. You want to send more of your money China, knock yourself out. Star's and Valhalla's both are Chinese crap. BTW, Schmelke will make you just the butt to go with your fancy LD shaft.

Do not listen to the naysayers, the Star line of McD's are a great product. They might even be the most solid hitting cues to come out of the factory in many years.

It's not the cue....it''s the hitter. Schmelke's are excellent quality for a great price. BilliardWarehouse or simply contact Schmelke directly.

Yes, I know they are made in China. I don't have really any issue with that.

There is a good chance that if you do own cues for a while that you will find out it can make a world of difference where the cue was made and what its made of.......
Just because you don't know the difference isn't our fault...

McDermott D model or a used custom cue with a 3/8x 10 pin.

And I don't agree that 90% of the hit is in the tip, the tip is about 1% of the total mass of the cue.
Do the math,
Ferrule and shafts can make a ton of difference.. Put your favorite tip on a shaft you don't like or a cue that vibrates or has a buzz in it.
A good tip will make zero difference ....
Cut a tip off , you can still shoot if you are hitting center of cue ball.
What can just a tip do,, not much......

The joint makes a big difference too.

I had a customer bring in newer McDermott in for repairs, the butt sleeve was broke flush with the bottom of the wrap.
This cue wasn't a star or a lucky...
The handle and but sleeve was made of plastic, the weight bolt was 8.5 OZ

That changed my mind about any newer McDermott and what its actually worth.
A used D model McDermott is normally a good cue ....
