I was thinking that if someone wanted some, they could put their name on a list at their local exotic wood shop, on the off chance they ever get any in. Fortunately, Chris, there's an exotic wood store in Greenfield.

The last time they had some, I bought them all.:D

yeah, 30 minutes before I called. I did get some nice figured pieces, but they weren't the full curl you ended up with.

Here is what I have. Some of the figure doesn't show up very well, some of it does.

So I was going to Ask what it looks like and BAVOMPA there is a Photo...:)

A lot of people use the word curly for nearly any figure. What I posted are mostly mottled figure bordering on bees wing, and some ribbon stripe, and a combination of mottled and ribbon stripe.

Sometimes figured purpleheart goes undetected until it is surfaced. In the rough in can be hard to see unless your eye is trained. I have seen boards bought from a woodcraft store that after surfacing revealed its figured.

The true curly pieces with nice bands, and ones with tight bands that can be called fiddleback I believe are exceedingly rare.

I was thinking to myself that that wood never looked very curly but that perhaps It was because of the sealer and glare on those pieces that it wasn't standing out. About 10 years ago, Jim Buss had a curly purple heart cue out in Vegas that would knock your socks off. He said he was talking to a wood broker and that Mike Bender had received this wood and was very unhappy with it because of the curl and was going to send it back to the broker. Jim told the broker to call Mike and just send it to him instead.

Curly woods are my favorites. Down at the V.A. here in Cincinnati they have large rails/bannisters around the walls for all the old folks. All of these are made of purple heart. I know of one 10 foot section that is curly but I can't get it off the wall.

It sounds like someone needs to tell them that purpleheart is toxic and offer to take it down for free... :D

I keep getting this vision in my head that you go there, yank on the rail a couple of times to loosen it more, and return a week later to do it again. In about 4 years, that baby will fall off into your awaiting arms.

Fred <~~~ or we could just bring some saws and and some night vision goggles.
