Looking for decent, mid-priced cue

I'm in Canada, and it seems very hard to find any decent snooker cues here. Many of the Thai or British websites don't really make it easy to know what you're getting. I know there were a few builders who were making decent cues for around $400, but can't seem to find any info on them. My budget is about $700cad, but could go more. All the stores with BCE and Dufferin cues here have old, warped cues of low quality.

Years ago I ordered a John Parris cue, gave them my specs and waited about a year. Cue came, it’s perfect. I still have it and couldn’t be happier. I’m not sure how much they are now, mine is super basic. I’m sure it’s worth what I paid.

Maybe that’s an option for you, again I have no clue what the cost is now. They don’t lose value-that’s the upside.

Maximus from Thailand are good cues. Waiting list for John Parris is a lot longer than a year now, even for entry level. Wait for a JP Ultimate is nearer 6-7 years.

A snooker-playing friend of mine went to the UK and picked up a cue for me with a couple of lengths of extension and a case all for around $300. The cue played fine. It was a 3/4 cut cue.

I see Riley-BCE cues advertised for sale. The total with shipping to the US is $300 (US). No idea how decent.

Yeah, the cost has gone up, but the wait is insane. I actually met a guy today the the pool hall, and after talking it turns out we're from the same neighborhood in Dublin. He gave me a spare cue he had, which is quite nice. It's an Abban Reddy cue, made in Ireland. I'd still like to get a Parris, but maybe if a used one popped up.

Seems like I waited a year. I was thinking about that after I posted here, that was back in 2008. Makes sense that the wait time is super long. Hope you get a cue sorted out.

Green Baize in Stockton have a very, very good selection of cues for all levels. Some great brands there like Ton Praram and Maximus, but their own GBL selection is superb, too. They have a lot of full shaft cues in stock. For your budget, you can get a very nice cue and still have cash available for shipping and imports.

A friend of mine has a lovely Abban Reddy cue. Nicely priced, too, for the quality of it.

Any interest in selling it? I’m always looking for the next magic wand😺

We have Snooker Place in Arizona, Arizona Snooker Acadamy.

Might check website to see if they sell what you seek.

I’m brining it to Dubai, there are loads of snooker clubs here. I’m going to be putting it to good use. If I ever do decide to sell it I’ll message you here.

Best

I really love my Mike Wooldridge 3/4 cue. After about a decade away from the game, I finally played again today. The cue has held up well. Me? Well...

Here's Mike's website:

My cue, case, extension, and tips are all great.

A friend of mine who is a professional snooker coach is using a Ton Praram Black Bone cue and says its the best cue he has ever had, I also use a Ton Praram for English 8 ball.
