Looking for feedback on the Jacoby edge hybrid shaft

As the title says. I'm looking for some feedback on the jacoby edge hybrid shaft. I have been playing with predator shafts for a few years and want something different. I have never loved the hit of the predator. The LD performance has been great. Anyone played with both the predator and jacoby hybrid?

Thanks in advanced for the info.

Good question. I've played with Predator for probably 15 years, with a few breaks for OB.

The Jacoby has a wonderful hit. Very nice feedback, very nice build quality. I really like Jacoby as a company, and feel their jump cue is hands down the best.

That being said, the Edge hybrid has quite a bit more deflection (squirt) than Predator. I've tried them many times at various expos and tournaments. My friends agree with my assessment.

If you are looking for a better feel and more natural hit, but want the LD performance of the Predator, I would strongly encourage you to look at OB. The Classic Plus is just phenomenal. Feel is not far off from a standard shaft, and LD properties are in the ballpark of the 314-2. The OB 1 Plus may even have a hair less defelction than a 314-2, but the hit is very soft. You may not like it as much. I would consider the 314-2 to have a more firm hit.

If you are willing to accept a bit more squirt, the Jacoby is nice. Also, I have one of the first generation Bob Danielson SS360 shafts. The hit on this one is fantastic. The LD qualities are close to the Jacoby. He has recently come out with the SS360-2. I haven't tried that one, but I understand it is quite a bit less deflection than the first generation. I was quite impressed with the build quality, and I really like the taper of the shaft a great deal. It is a very long sort of pro taper. I don't think it is technically a pro taper, but it feels like one. The shaft seems to put a ton of juice on the ball. I liked it a lot, but was too used to the lower deflection of Predator. Bob was a real pleasure to deal with.

Another option that might appeal to you is the Meucci Pro shaft. This one also has a great hit to it. Really nice action on the cue ball, really nice feel. A bit more deflection than Predator or OB from what I could tell. Very nice shaft though.

Hope this helps,

Played with a z shaft for 2 years. Switched to jacoby with the same diameter for the last 2. To me it felt better, vibration wise(predator always felt a bit dead) and had a little more deflection(which I liked)

I recently hit a few balls with a Cory Barnhart cue with a matching Jacoby Edge shaft. What a fantastic combination!! Superb hit and very good control from my perspective...and the owner of the cue exhibited even better cue ball control with it. Bordering on amazing.

I have played with a Predator 8 point Sneaky Pete now for years and love the 314 shaft. I have a 314-2 backup shaft which I cannot get use too probably because it supposedly has less deflection. Being a bit taller, I went hunting for a longer shaft and bought a Jacoby edge 31" shaft. I have played well with the Jacoby but it has an Everest tip which I do not like. I like the feel but the jury is out for me yet until I change the tip to a soft Ki-tech which I have on all my other shafts. I tried the Balance Rite extension but do not like the extra weight.

It just depends on what is more important to you. LD or feel. There is always a trade off. I haven't played one but I have yet to see somebody get one and return it.

Awesome shaft, not sure I ever want to play with anything else now. I've had it for about a year, then I messed up the ferrule changing my own tip and had to play with an old Predator shaft...until I went and got a brand new Jacoby. Plays fantastic.

Of course this kind of thing is all subjective and different for each player. For me though, very very happy with this shaft, probably helped me play a ball better.

Good shaft, had one for a while (sold the cue it fit on so sold the shaft) and it was really nice. Definitely good feeling for LD. Would like to get another for my Jacoby cue at some point (came with plain maple shaft) but really liking my Predator enough to not need to spend the money for now.

The Jacoby Hybrid is a quality shaft. For me tho, the taper was way too long. The hybrids I have owned were 12.75mm tip and even tho a lot of the meat was taken off that taper, it was not whippy at all, nice firm hit. The ferrule stays nice and clean.

I prefer the OB.

I love the Hybrid Edge. Ryan Theewen made me a custom one from a blank for my Jacoby, matched the ringwork and turned it down to 12mm for me.

It's possibly due to the smaller than standard diameter, I but don't notice any more deflection than on the 314 I have on another cue.

Excellent playing shaft.....I may never change again. I own 4 of them. One went crooked pretty badly. I sent it back. They straightened it to my acceptability plus they sent me a new shaft to boot.

I had 2 of them. 1 reg and 1 31". both played good but the original tips were too hard. I think the ferrule made them feel to hard as I like hard tips on my other shafts. So I guess feedback was funny?

I do feel they are high quality and would recommend them.Jacoby seems like a good group.

They do not play like Predators, and to me me that is a good thing.

Thanks everyone for your input. I played with one for about 2 hours last night. And i have to so IMO, the best LD shaft out there. It played freaking great. And had a ton of feedback. Placed my order today.

Great purchase, great shaft, find the tip you like and you'll be off to the races.

With Tips

I liked how the shaft squirted but I was unsure of the hit. Can the hit be softened with a tip, its pretty stiff hitting.

i use to play with a 314-2 predator on my JP cue, recently i traded in my cue for a jacoby with a edge hybrid and i can say "wow" there is a difference! there is more deflection with the edge but it is a better sounding shaft and better english imo. but that really doesnt help with you are shoot with english and missing the pocket by and inch. i am going to be going to a mezz hybrid pro II soon which is the same deflection as a predator 314-2 but with a more solid feel to it.
