I am now living in NY so I decided to check out some pool halls. I went to Amsterdam Billiards. Overall it is a very nice place to play pool although they are pricey.

I was unable to join the league because after 6pm was 18 and over and the league starts after 6

Any good pool halls with friendly people that allow me to play in the league although I am 16?

Skyline is in brooklyn and you can play league on Monday or Wednesday Night. Tournaments are on Tuesday. PM me for more information if you are interested.

Depends on what part of the city you are in. I'll agree that Skyline is a cool place. Rob and Sam are great, they'll take care of you.

Devindra is a great player - someone will be lovin' it when they get him on their league team.

Next time I'm in NYC, I'll get in touch with ya-- would love to play some. I'm supposed to see RonV soon--- maybe then.

In Manhattan, Soho Billiards isnt far from Amsterdam and its not a bad place to play. Off the 'Broadway/laffette' stop F, B, D, V trains.

Masters in Queen is open 24/7 and lots of tournaments, Mon, Wed, and Friday and a tristate tournament about once a month. Good for action nearly all the time. Off the '40th st' stop on the 7 Train.

Skyline in Brooklyn (as other said) is a great place to play. Its cheap, they take very good care of their equipment. Weekly tournaments and as much or as little action as you want. Off 'Ave. X' stop on the F train.

I recommend Master Billiards if you want to play in some weekly tournaments. Monday, Wed and friday around 7:30 PM. Cheap too!

If you are serious about improving your pool game, then go to Carom Cafe in Flushing and start playing three-cushion billiards on a regular basis. It's the best place in the country for it, and you'll see why when you get there.

They have a league on Tuesday nights that is open to all ages, and the people are very friendly and knowledgeable and willing to help you improve your game. It's a handicapped league, so you'll see national champions in tough matches with beginners and everything in between. I believe they are starting a new season in a month or so, so it's a good time to see about signing up. Just call or stop by and talk to Min Jae (manager) about it.

Even if the league isn't convenient for you, then just go and start learning the game. There's no better way to get control of the cue ball, and you can learn a lot from the many strong players that play there.

Watch out, though: many pool players start three-cushion intending to improve their cue ball control for pool only to discover it's so addicting that they go for long stretches without playing pool at all! Some quit pool entirely and never look back, although I think that's unfortunate. I find they complement each other very well, and I love to play both. Give it a try, and you just might, too! :)
